This Panzer IV moves at scale speed and that works well with the HL sound chip on the receiver board. I did a mod to the transmitter involving a spdt with center off and a 5k potentiometer. This allows me to dial down the speed and set a cruise in either F\R with the primary throttle still available to increase speed at any time, then when throttle is released, tank moves at the cruise setpoint until the switch is switched to the center off position.
I also added turret traverse on this model. You can see that in the video.
Here is a video of the tank in action on my indoor test track.

Thank you for your reply MonsieurTox
The motors used are 8 ohm which allows good low speed resolution. The stock motors are 1.3 ohm.

- This is a good model to motorize as it had the option from the factory.

This Panzer IV has the same chassis as the motorized remote control version less the gearbox. These are the easiest ones to motorize.
This Panzer IV will ultimately be a IR battle tank. Just need to add a IR emitter diode and 3 pin IR detector and maybe a 4 hit display with flashing defeat. (4 LED's). I use 1/30 Heng long RC models with TK-30-RXV1 circuit boards (Sherman, Pershing) as donor Tanks for these conversions.
There are four circuit HL boards available. I get mine from ebay or amazon.
1. TK-30-RXV1 = 1s lipo. use V1 Transmitter.
3. TK-24-RXV1 = 2s lipo. use V1 Transmitter.
2. TK-30-RXV2 = !s lipo. use V2 Transmitter.
4. TK-24-RXV2 = 2s lipo. use V2 Transmitter.

- Gear box is from a Tamiya 1/35 M60 and is a good fit for this chassis. The axles are a bit longer and could be trimmed bit I have grown to like it as it is. I buy used M60 models to get this gear box as I like Panzer III and IV models.

Re: 1/35 Panzer IV with 360 turret rotation
Ok I went all in on this turret upgrade. This is the 3rd 1/35 model that has been converted. I have a junkyard of older tanks that I use for parts.

Woo Hoo! modeler is back with more electronic wizardry! You are always way over my head in electronics know-how, but I check all your videos and I envy that you can slow down an AFV.

Re: 1/35 Panzer IV with HL radio gear switch Transmitter mod
I love RC planes but as I also love accuracy, I hate when planes are too fast... it really kills it for me. Unfortunatly, most planes have to go faster than they should in real life to stay in the air. I had a GWS F4U back in the past !modler wrote: ↑Sat Jan 31, 2026 3:38 pmThank you for your reply MonsieurToxI am experimenting in slow speed animation of military vehicles for some time now and this is my latest attempt at scale speed @ 1/35 scale. So not only am I a 1/35 scale tank commander, I am also a RC pilot and fly GWS J3 Cubs which are the slowest 40'' wig span planes available. This makes for a very scale looking Take offs and landings.
The motors used are 8 ohm which allows good low speed resolution. The stock motors are 1.3 ohm.
Are you using the stock vinyl tracks ? I think I can spot at least one tank in the background with what looks to be metal tracks ?
