I bought the clear glass plastic sprue collection from the Tamiya M1 Abrams spare parts, although I haven’t gotten around to installing it. Really want to get their brass etch stuff to upgrade my HL Abrams, but they never restock it.
I’ll second John from ECA, he has a bunch of super detailed accurate 3D printed parts for the 1/16 Abrams. I’ve gotten a couple, but like the Tamiya glass parts, I haven’t gotten around to installing them.
While I’m on this tangent I’ll also say, just get one tank, and max it out. There’s a ton you can do before you need to move on to another tank. I have more tanks than I have time, and I kind of wished I just got one at a time. Now I’ve got a bunch of half finished tanks because I can’t buckle down on just one, and I don’t have a ton of free time.
I also have the Merkava, it’s no different from any other 1/16 HL. The front wheel drive makes it kind of impossible to put the metal 550 motor gearboxes in, but other than that it’s not really complicated.
Confused about Heng Long Abrams versions-NG needs some help!
Re: Confused about Heng Long Abrams versions-NG needs some help!
I just received the unit tonight-very impressed with Motion RCs job, ordered Thursday, here on Monday. Fed Ex did their usual job of butchering the packaging, looks like they skewered the shipping box and the inner box with something about the size of a forktruck fork, thankfully no damage to the tank! Took a couple minutes to figure out how to install the battery. There is no longer a battery compartment on the bottom, a little latch on the very front of the hull unlatches a panel (upper glacises plate on a real tank). Nice upgrade not to have to use a screwdriver to change it-unfortunately the documentation hasn't been upgraded to match! Got it shortly before dark, only took it for a short test drive. Got to say, it's pretty cool watching that suspension work! Looking forward to painting and detailing.
One more question. I know the various parts are press/snap fit. Some snap fits (I haven't studied this) are pretty much "one way", not easy to remove. I might want to take some parts off to detail/paint, just wondering if I can assemble the whole thing and later tear it down for painting/detailing without doing damage. Just put it up for the night or I'd go check it out. I have WAY too many cats to leave anything sitting out on the kitchen table.
