XRAD's TRAWLER
XRAD's TRAWLER
Picked up Artesania Latina Hellen Rc Ready Model # 20203 off ebay with two row boats for 179$. It was close so I picked her up and saved on shipping.
It was built about 10 yrs ago and need some major rebuild. The hull is a VERY thick GRP. I took everything apart and repainted the hull, re-planked the deck, rewired and added lights, redid the rudder servo and most of the internal structure as the decks were sagging.
Re-did the standing rigging, running rigging, extended rudder for RC, added lead, waterline and a bunch of other stuff. Came out pretty good. Had her out in a stiff breeze and she handled great......
enjoy..

some more pics...
The original kit is 279$ plus shipping...wow..too much. All you get is a nice hull and a few bits of cheap hobby ply. Better off getting a hull from Microglass and building your own boat.
Motor is 550 can style with gear reduction drive. I use the landing gear option on my remote to run a micro relay so i can turn the lights on and off......
Basic rc speed control (cheapest i could find). The lights run of 3v system separate from 7v battery running the servo/receiver/motor
Great model about 38 inches long. Tires and light relay and lights from Harbor models. FAst shipper!

I really like that - the tyres are a great addition and the planking looks superb.
Tamiya King Tiger (no options)
Taigen Full Metal T34 (winter)
Heng Long Challenger II (European camo')
Tamiya Tiger I full options (still in the box)

Re: XRAD's TRAWLER
Ummm..For those who can't read, this is the RC boat section....
I post these pics and builds for model builders who do more than just repaint Heng Long tanks. It is called broadening your techniques.....
thanks Steelhammer. Had to make a tool to do the nail holes..Each board is cut for size...two days of basswood planking and a good hour to tap them all in. Accentuated with very thin enamel flat black (wipe on, wipe off)..then two coats gloss poly with sand between each coat...then a light spray of testors dull...
I left a few areas of original planking in deference to the original builder (his were balsa)

Re: XRAD's TRAWLER
Still think it would look better with a panzer 3 on its deck....
Re: XRAD's TRAWLER
recycled PIII scrap is used for balast....
Re: XRAD's TRAWLER
Xrad excellent, really.Nice work. Any chance of a river steamer in the future? I ask because I built one years ago,and with your love of steam a nice side wheeler would be a fine build subject?

Thanks Sax. those are nice models to build but I like the more industrial look.
Re: XRAD's TRAWLER
The deck wench is a nice touch with the crewman working on that piece of equipment. Never built a trawler but this is a nice change, and I very much agree with your sentiment.Ships, Boats, aircraft, it's best to have a wider experience, and try new things.
Any more ships in the near future, have you considered the river boats? The early snag boats were unique,I've only seen one modelled before. Might be a challenging build for you. Or possibly the River iron clad boats their were some very unique creations during that era?
