m10 crew

Post by stug 85 »

hi all my brother is building an m10 in 1/35 and we were wondering if the crew wore normal tank crew uniforms with steel helmet or normal tank crew helmet we are not sure as the turret is open top.

If you do a bit of googling and or reading, you see crews in the standard issue Tank helmet with the flappy ears. Also see them with steel lids on too. I reckon, only an informed guess that once they got into the field for real they would be quite keen on having the steel helmet on, specially the chap what had to poke his head out the top. That said, not sure what they would of worn to communicate....see I completely failed to answer your question there  . I reckon either or would suit. Maybe steel lid for the commander and tank helmets for the gunner and loader ?

see in this picture theres a mixture. Maybe the radio operator/loader has the tank helmet on as he has to listen into the radio obviously

now you got me looking

good references here, showing a mix of helmets, One crew in a line alongside their vehicle all with tanker type helmets and others with Steel on.....mix and match mate :haha:
