Hello

My name is Steve, I live on the Isle of Wight and I am very new to (and consequently not well informed about) RC anything, never mind tanks. After you have sighed and taken you head out of your hands, I will continue. I did an impulse purchase at the Tank Museum last week. I have a Challenger 2, which was the only one they had with metal tracks/wheels – not sure if that was a wise choice or not? I am no spring chicken, having retired to the Isle of Wight, but now work part-time, as I got bored (my kids have flown the nest). In my youth I built models to a reasonably good standard and would paint figures for my friend's Tamiya RC cars. Marriage, a career and kids led to the end of model making for me. I took up model making again upon retirement, which did not go well, I guess my coordination and eyesight are not what they were, so I count myself as an ex-modeller, interested in what model makers are doing. We have just one model shop on the Isle of Wight (no RC stuff) and a Warhammer shop, but that is it. To be fair, I spent a fair bit of money at both shops and they were very supportive when discussing my skills fade.

What can I contribute? Well at first, it will be my ignorance, but that comes with my interest and admiration. I look forward to meeting all of you in the future and you never know, some of you may be able to teach an old dog new tricks! :haha:

We have members with a variety of skills, some of us are just do minor details and paint while other still leave me baffled of what they can do. Jump in and ask whatever questions you might have. Plenty of help and terrific members on here.

Good Morning!
Welcome to the Forum, Steve! Many of us *cough*, me,*cough* have been forced to take a more leisurely approach to Modeling by the vagaries of Time and related health issues. Slow and Steady just prompts more attention to Detail which makes for a better finished vehicle (or plane, *waves at Pavel*). Share some pics of your work when you can. We love to chat and kick the virtual road wheels around here!
regards,
Painless Wolf

P.S. Wow! The Isle of Wight has a Hobby Shop on it!? I have to drive over a 100 miles to get to one around here.... Lucky Man You!

Thank you. More tanks! My long suffering wife is looking at me with a panicked face! Not model related, but her grandfather was a tank driver in WW2 and never took a car driving test, he had tank lessons and that got him his car licence! He told me about the way he controlled the tank, which shamefully I do not now not recall.

Thank you, steady it will be.
100 miles ! Thank goodness for the online shops! We are captive by cost, not by distance. The Solent is reputed to be the most expensive piece of sea to cross. Prices vary, but £250 for a 40 minute return ferry journey is typical if taking the car. It is cheaper to go to France or Spain!

Hello and welcome from Argyll and Bute. You are the second person from the IoW, who recently introduced themselves.
viewtopic.php?t=37466.
Maybe you two can share information, and have your own group?
I too, am constrained, living, as I do on a peninsula. We have one road in, which adds 70miles to Glasgow, or we can take the car ferry. We do have a CalMac passenger ferry, which more often than not, does not run. To hot, to sunny, football is on, to wet, to foggy, wrong sea. Well you get the picture.

Makes a change from the usual Tiger.

Challengers need care, where they are used, and how they are driven. Especially with metal tracks.
