ETO gearboxes

Post by ruben2005 »

 hi all, just thought i would give a heads up of these boxes i got a set for my tamiya kt from www.modellspiegel.com , a very nice man called Roland cost was £213.54. now if anyone wants these for their tamiya kt if you buy the standard motors like me easy to fit there is a problem you cant fit a full size battery in the space between the end of the motors and the tamiya speaker box i didn't know till i fitted them . luckily i had a small 2.2 lipo battery but did away with the tamiya speaker and got one from tankbear ( ian) so now i can fit a full size battery lots of room. these boxes are wasted on the tamiya mfu system as soon as you move the tank it just goes to full revs even though the tank is going slow they are geared 1-50 and are a great drive through long grass and plastic tracks really solid drive.i also got the mk2 henntec idle system this just needs a small amount of filing around the hole and the holding screws fit through the slits above the orignal hole and hold the system in place. over all this has made the kt a good solid tank im very impressed with these upgrades just need to get a new electronic package now which one ?also on the tv channel quest on Wednesday at 7pm there's a show called combat dealers and the bloke has a genuine panther tank from Normandy and he is restoring it and its quite good viewing.

The tamiya dmd has probably the best fine control of all the systems I have used. Yours might be faulty, I wouldn't have thought the gearboxes would be the issue though. 1:50 isn't far of tamiya standard ratio. Does the mfu/dmd work ok with the standard gears?

 hi tom, all the stock tamiya parts work fine just wanted something a bit more stronger for driving around the garden these gearboxes are in my view better suited for a different running system like the new ibu with its driving effects as they are so smooth and strong .

Those ETO units are pretty nice. I have not seen them in a KT yet but other builders use them a lot at Danville. Our club does do speed checks and we haven't noticed any direct link to the ETO units. I'll admit the KT and T1 are way faster than they should be for scale. The Tamiya KT is the most out of scale for speed.
Another thing to watch with those TUs is the stock tamiya track. Unless you have a spring tensioner you'll bend the pins quick if any debris finds its way between the idler and track. Check out the Daryl Turner KT tensioner. You can make a similar system from the hentec.

PS I have them in a Panther and Sherman. The panther set is a early proto and gear differently than the production set.
I was just meassuring a set to be fitted into a Taigen / Torro lower.
