Re: ETO gearboxes
The tamiya dmd has probably the best fine control of all the systems I have used. Yours might be faulty, I wouldn't have thought the gearboxes would be the issue though. 1:50 isn't far of tamiya standard ratio. Does the mfu/dmd work ok with the standard gears?

Re: ETO gearboxes
Those ETO units are pretty nice. I have not seen them in a KT yet but other builders use them a lot at Danville. Our club does do speed checks and we haven't noticed any direct link to the ETO units. I'll admit the KT and T1 are way faster than they should be for scale. The Tamiya KT is the most out of scale for speed.
Another thing to watch with those TUs is the stock tamiya track. Unless you have a spring tensioner you'll bend the pins quick if any debris finds its way between the idler and track. Check out the Daryl Turner KT tensioner. You can make a similar system from the hentec.
PS I have them in a Panther and Sherman. The panther set is a early proto and gear differently than the production set.
I was just meassuring a set to be fitted into a Taigen / Torro lower.
