my late Tiger stripdown and rebuild

Post by tiger205 »

hi guys
a week or 2 ago i succumbed to temptation and bought a asiatam lower hull from rc tank.de, partly cos i wanted one but mainly cos rob(fv432) and stewart(brel) had bought one each and their write ups convinced me that they are the dogs danglies, which they are. anyway i put off doing anything untill now, what i did was draw up a list of all what i was going to do to my Tiger whilst i had her apart, plus another reason i put it off is i was working on something else tank related which i will share with you all in due course.
anyway the list of jobs i intend to do to "205" are - rip off the rubber zimm' and re do it the "crispy" way with a soldering iron, which ive started, smooth off the flash marks on the suspension arms from the new hull, notch out the front tow shackle holders, cut up the turret so i can rebuilt it more to scale not quite sure how, but i will do it, move the main gun pivot point to where it should be by the front turret lifting eyes, do away with the elevation motor and replace with micro servo's, my elmod TLS has 2 servo sockets on it for this purpose, plus aload of weathering and detailing,
so far ive done the "crispy" zimm' on the upper hull, i must say it does look spot on, ive also removed the casting marks on the new suspension arms, and given them and the lower hull a good couple of coats of basecoat ochre yellow, this is the 1st time ive used a airbrush, and i think it dont look to bad considering. thats about as far as ive got so far, like i said earlier i'm working on something else tank related and thats been taking up a lot of my time, here's the photos of what ive done so far i hope you like them

Hi Tony,

The zim looks good. Is its crispy's soldering iron & styrene method or soldering iron straight to the model method?

hi john
it is crispys way off doing it, with a soldering iron & 'styrene, but the gun mantlet will be done straight on to the model with the soldering iron, its to bloody complicated to cut 'styrene to fit the mantlets shapes

Looking great Tony. I too have a Tiger 'waiting in the wings'. I'm considering zimming it with Crispy's hot iron method so I'll watch your progress on this with great interest.

Cheers

hi guys
nic's way of doing the zimm' does sound daunting, but once you get going it does'nt take long, it does stink a bit though ;D ;D , Tony "youre inspiration" isnt getting wiped out, its just getting done better, essentially the same camo etc, but painted better and new better decals with better detailing, atleast thats the plan, the colors i'm useing are all humbrol enamels(its what i know)they are red/brown-matt 160, yellow ochre-matt 83, and dark green-matt 30. i have just moved the position of the front single headlight wireing position(where it goes through the upper hull) and cut off the wooden block so i can reposition it as per late Tiger, i might even make it in real wood, i will post more pic's when i take them . and thanks all for the comments
