You guys are gonna laugh, motor swap...

Post by Marc780 »

I'm getting the metal treads for my Tiger 1 as i blabbed on about at length in a previous post. I had these metal gearboxes, from ali express, got em so long ago i cant remember who made them. They would not fit in the King tiger, the only tank i had when i ordered these gearboxes, so i set them aside and just kept using the old ones.

But now that I have the tiger treads coming i wanted to upgrade to the steel gearboxes. I "borrowed" the steel shafts from my Panzer mark III, that had the metal gearbox, and that's waiting on other parts . Rather then just do a straight swap of the Mark III box into the tiger (what i should have done in the first place!) I swapped the short shafts to the new gearboxes. These gearboxes went in just fine and everything functions as it should except:

FORWARD and BACK functions on the transmitter stick are now reversed!!! :-< push forward to go reverse, back goes forward. Turning functions as normal. I tried the obvious, switching the motor wires pos and neg-of course that didn't work. I'm a tiny bit irate, but seriously thinking of leaving it how it is and just relearn on the Tx! Does anybody know what my options are to do about this?

Here's a picture of the gears FWIW

Usually when you get opposite reaction when hooking up the motor...all you do is switch the plugs in the RX

By the way Alpha, when are you getting the King Tiger to complete the collection? I was surprised not to see one on the list.
If I had the funds burning a hole in my pocket, i'd spring for a full metal one if they even make it yet-they will soon. Now THAT would be a project alright. Most powerful of everything for the drivetrain i'd want. And hope you get more then 4 min battery life out of the beast lol

Hey Marc, get a battery that is like 5100 mah and it'll run a LOT longer then 10 min. My Tiger weighs its at 13 pounds so far and I can run it for a good 2 hours straight and she keeps right on going.

However the battery that came with my King Tiger which is rated at 2000 mah couldn't make it 2 trips around the block outside. :( I just need to get another set of Traxas connectors so I can use the Tigers battery in the KT untill I can aford another one.

Thanks, thats a good idea...mine drop a full volt just after driving them about 300 yards. I have the venom 7.2 v 3000 mamps, recommended by somebody on this forum, might as well get a more powerful one.

No problem Marc glad to help. Just for reference I took my King Tiger to the park and before I lost the left transmission I drove the tank WELL over a 1/2 mile and the batteries still aren't dead.
