First I am so sorry for not say anything for a long time, I just forgot.
The tiger project isn't active at the moment because after a weeks work I now got money and possibility to continue on my original project, my homemade 1:1 R2D2 (from wood and not steel).

Thanks a lot for the great tip and I will take it into action the next time I weld. I really appreciate that you took the time to write all that! :)

I think I understand how to do that welding technique now, thanks to you! :)

Lol

mate as jarndice says right in the deep end ! have you specced a real tiger and scaled the armour down ? that beast is gonna need some transmission set up. i'd recommend getting a ford focus engine and the gearbox cos to power it ? good luck ! certainly have balls !

Those are some great welds man! Great Job. I really applaud you for taking on such a tough project and I cant wait to see how you are doing with this.

A ford focus engine! LMAO. That is great, I say find a powerwheel motor, they have the little 6v motors, I converted my sons 12v Jeep Hurricane into a 18v system and it does about 12mph! I just dont know how you could incorporate a transmission of some sort, maybe a switch over resistor? but you went this far don't STOP!

I have been in this hobby for a long time, and thought that I had seen it all but this project takes the biscuit. For someone who has never welded before you are not only diving in at the deep end, you are diving from a helicopter. ;)

I have to say that I would never have the courage to contemplate anything like this, so fair play to you for giving it a go. At the very least you will learn a lot about cutting and welding during the build.

I am wondering why you need the side skirts? Surely the welded box section that makes up the lower hull will be plenty strong enough?

You could push the boat out and take a mould of the HL upper hull, and then make a cold metal casting, that way you retain the detail. The turret ring etc is going to cause you a few headaches, and as for the turret....no way would I take it on.

doc larsson and rockstroke, I will certainly take it into consideration when I come that far with the engine and stuff. Doc larsson, not really - although it have to take it, just in case.

Wibblewobbly, the skirts won't be used at all times, they are more like accessories ;) And it looks a bit more badass :)
Casting the top part wasn't a bad idea, but I have never casted before, and have no clue how to do it. As for the ring/horse shoe it would be relative easily with an anvil, if I had access to one at the time...

Eastern Front, in Norway everything is more expensive, so the gas price can be exiting! And the welder has a tube coming out of the back, it's made to weld with/without gas.
I will try to do that too the next time I weld, but it can go some time. The thickness is the tricky part because most of the plates aren't like, but a bunch of different thicknesses, like 1mm, 1,5mm, 2mm, 3mm. For the turret I think I will go for 1,5 or 2mm for the horse shoe/ring and 4/5 in front of the turret.

If anyone want to take a peek at my R2D2 project, go ahead: http://www.therpf.com/f9/1-1-r2d2-homem ... ld-192558/
It seems like I am the youngest person ever to build a full size R2D2 of real quality, alone. Go hard or go home! :D
