Considering that Waltersons neglected to send me a complete gearbox I cannot report on the quality.
As for the paintwork, thanks fellows it is the best I have ever done, and the key for me was the planning and the coating between each color of X21 Flat base and Johnsons floor polish,Ultra shine. Really created a fine flat finish. I have discovered an oversight on my part, and a troubling one.
The front Lower hull is base color,I neglected to bring the camo down into this area. I do intend to start on the Henschel KT today so I will do some touch up painting on the Porsche.Hopefully the weather will remain nice and I can complete the Porsche.

Installed the new Gearbox last night, mounting plate was a perfect fit, the gearboxes fit exactly on the plate,I did not remove the tracks or drive sprockets. I simply slid the old stock junk plastic gearboxes out of position, installd the new plate and mounted the gearboxs. Then aligned and installed the drive sprockets no problem.
One thing that has become very clear, the pinions cannot be changed with the gearboxes installed in the tank. This is a problem, the whole idea is to create a drivetrain that enhances your specific tank and the torque, speed and mobiltiy based on the tank and the weight.
Although these are nice looking units, priced fairly and do have some features that make them attractive. This tank is not that heavy, but the highest torque pinion was used. In a King Tiger like the TORRO Metal edition these would be an excellent addition.
More testing to follow, the install is easy and using the HEX DRIVERS allows easy access to the holes between the gear shafts. These are sold seperatly and as yet the pricing has not been made available,.
Waltersons is in the process of moving to a new server, and I will post the site link ASAP.

Yeah, not sure I actually would consider this a real problem, but more a design hindrance or slight inconvenience for any manufactured gearbox where the motors mount to the box pointing outwards toward the hull, leaving little to no room to pop off the installed pinion gear for replacement.Saxondog wrote: One thing that has become very clear, the pinions cannot be changed with the gearboxes installed in the tank. This is a problem, the whole idea is to create a drivetrain that enhances your specific tank and the torque, speed and mobiltiy based on the tank and the weight.
I guess several solutions could be designed going forward to create a more ideal removal system. Mount the motor to another small plate, that then gets mounted to the hull mounted gearbox plate, or maybe a slot through the motor mounting plate so that when the motor mount screws were removed & the motor has room to shift some, the small motor shaft could then follow the slot as the motor is slipped out from the gearbox, pinion & all. But that might decrease the integrity of the mount, enough so then a small connecting plate would have to be installed to secure the slot from possible vibration & fatigue. I'm sure there are other possible designs too.
But realistically, this setup still does create a drive-train with the ability to enhance your specific tank & the torque, speed, & mobility based on the tank & weight ... just not ideally while the gearbox is still in the mounted position.

For all purposes, does anyone really need a quick change pinion system, even if it would be ideal? Sure, I'll get everyone saying yes now

Still, I'd rather have a quality gearbox kit priced in this range that offers 3 pinion sizes & a gear puller to boot, than having just a gearbox alone offered at around the same pricing ... even with the slight design inconvenience!

Guys, i HAVE ASKED FOR AND SHOULD RECIEVE a list of venders, when and where these can be purchased. Waltersons has shown thenselves to be a bit enthusiatic at times, then delaying the product. I waited 6 months for this unit. From the day we were told it was being developed,to the first sample that had splined shafts, this this sample which is the one going to market.
As for the Pinion changing issue, well it is not hard to figure out which pinion is best based on weight and tank type, also the pinion tool does work with any 2.3mm shaft motors. So as a package it is not a bad deal.
I should have some test Video this week of the Porsche driving using the gearbox and the highest ratio pinion.
