Asiatam gearboxes running 11tooth 48pitch slot car type pinions for over two years now, they were long and my motors are spaced slightly, these are the type with the grub screw,2.3MM BORE, I tried the lock tight method, would not handle the toque or the weight of my tank.

I have asked Mid South Hobbies to order 10 for me,I have not checked back but will tomorrow,or rather in about 7hrs. You can see the spacing, you can use aluminum or brass tubing as a stabilizer so the motor shaft housing and the gearbox mounting opening are rigid.

But the Tiger just has some washers and some longer bolts. It has lasted a long time, now the odd pitch you guys aetalking about are the H/L metal gearboxes?

This may be a bad time but their is a new gearbox coming out soon.in Feb.Here is a picture, just FYI This is not the final version and their is a tool included for the pinion gear removal,it is on a Australian site but our contact at H/L said not the final vesion, trying to get a set to test guys?

Gary,

Might be the Mato gearbox uses a different pitch, although would of thought stick same as HL, Tamiya, Asiatam.

Blake

Interesting about the new gearbox coming out. But i'm after pinions for motors/gearboxes I've already got so still searching. Found Heliguy site which sells two brands, one says is 0.5 Mod and the other is Xtreme products and they technical have replied saying 0.5 Mod also so it looks like I should of been looking in RC heli circles for the 2.3mm shaft pinions.

As i post above..my Asiatam boxes worked just fine with the tamyia cogs. They are still fitted in the tank . So the pitch is just fine with the Asiatam boxes i have got with tamyia drive cogs. Uless my Asiatam boxes were special one offs done by tamyia ;) I can't see why yours shouldn't work Tb.

Right ordered some of these. http://www.heliguy.com/Extras/Pinion-Ge ... ion-2.3mm/
Which finally arrived yesterday (ordered Friday!)

From what I can tell they mesh correctly. Only comment is they quite loose on the shaft so may need some extra glue or epoxy resin to secure.

Plus I haven''t a allen/hex key small enough to fit the grub screw :-< It says it's M2 screw so will that be 1mm allen key I need? and secondly where sells 1mm allen keys? apart from one on ebay everywhere I've looked only seem to go down to 1.5mm

Re-tap it to a 1.5 or 2mm Tb it will be safer with that size of grub screw.

Sorry Caddyshack having a blonde moment but I thought a M2 screw was 2mm. Do you mean tap out to 3mm and use 3mm grub screw (1.5mm allen key)

Hi Tb
The bigger you go in head size the less chance you are going to have in a round off. Especially if you are going to be giving it some teddy (excuses the pun) ;)

I allways thougt the Tamiya were 0,6 Metric pitch, that's what I calculated from my broken Tamiya gearbox.

Finally got some small Allen Keys to tighten the pinions but still finding the pinions are coming loose as very little resistance between them and shaft. Any ideas on how to solve this?

Thought about filing a flat section on the motor shaft for the pinion grub to sit in be not certain if be able to due to hardness of the shaft and holding so doesn’t turn etc. Also thought about superglue.

Two Idea's and another source. The slipping pinion would seem to need a but of distortion, Ok you need a pointed punch, insert in the hole and strike once, make sure your aligned. Mine were a bit loose and this will cause the hole to close a bit, test fit. Then do the same to the other end.

Be careful I ruined one set like this. Also Impact sells the pinions that mate to the Tamiya gearboxes.\
