Pinions

Post by Tankbear »

I’m after 10, 11, or 12 tooth pinion gears, 2.3mm shaft, 48 pitch. Having problems finding them as most places don’t list all the information, making a Google search quite impossible.

I have found that some pinions are listed in modules rather than pitch. And I found on a RC heli site that 0.5 Mod roughly equals 48 pitch. So can any of you ex-heli guys confirm if this is correct and 0.5 Mod will work in the HL gearboxes at 48 pitch.

Also on same site it mentioned 2.3mm shaft sizes are less common than 2mm or 3.17mm and suggested drilling out the smaller 2mm to 2.3mm. Anyone done this and problems like in balance etc.

Finally would these http://www.heliguy.com/Extras/Pinion-Ge ... ion-2.3mm/ fit the bill?

Thanks

Ian.

You are on the right track with those. I haven't got any of those in my stores. But all i can say is this regarding them being use in a heli. The drive cog they would be driving is going to be wider than that used by our tank gears.
So is there going to be enough room for enough clearance. That i can't say for sure. But try one and see how you go.

As for drilling cogs. If you have a pillar drill you will be just fine.

Cheers Caddyshack

I hadnt thought about the length but yes might be too long. Will run the gearbox calculator and see what size and try it.

Don't want to put a damper on this !! But 48 pitch are what the tamiya gears have but the gear boxes we have can't be 48 pitch as all my Rc cars I race are 48 pitch and none of my pinions fit!!! And I've over 20 in 48 pitch!!! The nearest I have are old kyosho optima pinions and even they are a bit out!!!!!!! :O

:eh: I was told 48 pitch same as the Tamiya never heard anything else.

When you say dont fit do you mean shaft? our tanks have 2.3mm cars use 3.17mm which have loads pinions available.

Cheers Gary,

No rush as these are for another tank and as you know working on the Tiger at moment.

Also had a reply from Xtreme Products and they pinions are 0.5 mod. They products are the ones with a product code like EA-016-10T which i've found on a lot of websites.
