making your upper hull stronger on your heng long tiger use
hey guys heres how ive made a strong platform for the turret to sit on buy useing resin on my heng long upper hull. i had some easyflow resin left over and i thought what if i could pour it in a sertin place on my hull to make it super strong! heres how i did it
heres the resin its a 50/50 mix and it will dry in around 2mins heres the hull with some plasticard strips ive glued in place so when i pour the resin it will set inbetween the two strips. and dont forget to plug any holes or it will come through them!!heres another pic of the strips in place you can see here were ive moved the turret ring 10 mm back and i had a spare hull so i cut the turret ring out of that and plastic welded it on the back as well to make an even stronger base!!!heres a mod ive been working on you can see the alloy frame ive made in the middle of the frame ive put part of an old carpet racer cars gear box side houseings these have bearings in them and a carbon shaft that will rotate the turret !heres another pic of the mod ive had to fix it in now as im planing to pour the resin over it!! ive allso bolted it down here
rite now here you can see the resin ive poured in the hull its about 6mm thick!! and once set it is solid!!!!heres a closeup i allso filled in some spaces at the back with resin just to help strenthen up the rearheres a pic of the top of the hull you can see were ive cut out the ring here and moved it back just needs filling to finishheres the turret underside ive got to move this back as well but heres a pic of the part that fixes to the carbon shaft ive fitted in the hullwell thats it for now guys more to come!!!my hull is now super strong with no flex
oh heres a quick peek at my turret mantel pivot point modyou can see were ive had to cut the bottom of the gear box on the recoil unit so it clears the base of the turret bearing mod rite thats it for now

There's is a weight difference !! That's for sure! The bottles of resin when both full were 2 kg but as you can see in the pic there was about 400 grams left ! If I had of had more resin I would of used more!! . When I cut out the engine bay cover there was a lot of flex in-between the turret ring hole and the engine bay! But after the resin there was zero flex!!! I don't no why I dident think of it befor!!! I've allso got a geared motor coming I've got off eBay that runs at 30 rpm and will be very quiet! I will have that to install . I was thinking of using the main gear ring off a Trev 500 heli! But need to find out how big exactly the cog is first ! It's never ending!!!

Hi The Tank Man,
Very nice solution to the problem of flex...and the turret looks like it will be super smooth in operation
. Watch out for the 'Pitch' of gears...I bought some Helicopter gears based on the number of teeth, thinking that ALL model gears were the same...Wrong !!....and so had the worlds loudest Tiger Gearboxes for about 2 minutes until I figured out that the teeth were not meshing correctly

This was my solution to curing the 'Flex' problems, but definately not as elegant as yours though...

Hi there I've taken a look and you did go to town on the flex prob with your tank! Looks like it's solid now!!! I've seen some heli gears on eBay and the pinion gear to match!! I've also ordered a geard motor that will be very quiet!!! I'm on eith making the back panel out of alloy at the mo I've cut about 3 mm off the back of the hull so the back panel will go all the way to the top of the hull like the real tank!! I'll post some pic when I've got it on the tank! Been busy filling were I moved the turret ring back and I've cut off both the antena tubes and the tool box at the front going to make an antena tube and a wooden tool box!!! It's never ending!!!

Hi there Alb I got it off eBay it was £7 pounds with free post! Here's the eBay item number! 260895767916 there's a guy on here who has got it running direct on to the turret! But im going to use a trex 500 heli pinion gear and the trex 500 main gear ring
Should be good when done I'll post some pics of the motor with the trex pinion on it! Tomorrow for you!

Re: making your upper hull stronger on your heng long tiger
Just my 10p woth. But i wouldn't use the Trex Main gear ring. They are as soft as butter. Trust me when i say i have stripped loads of them on the heli. If fitted to the tank and it snagged, it will strip teeth. It was one of the gripes people had with it. But there has to be a give point some where. One you could try which were a little better, was the one done by Raptor in there 450 range. Its gearing is going to be a little different. But it was stronger.
