German Armour What If?
Re: German Armour What If?
This is a little late, but I could not recall where I had seen these, These were posted by Dietrich in a file we both worked on of King Tiger pictures. I do not know the original source?
The first picture is interesting as the caption applies"FINAL PRODUCTION" as it turned out this design was never produce, yet it would have to be a massive Tank. The guns power would have to be supported by a huge internal breach system just to be able to load the shells.

Re: German Armour What If?
here is an update. I have the gears in now for the rear wheel drive, which was a lot harder than I thought. That second axis almost threw me but I caught it before I drilled. an aluminum framework to support the stresses on the idlers and something to attach the suspension to is in and tightened up as well.
I have the upper hull almost together as well but your all gonna have to wait for that, once I get the rough stuff done then I get to doing the important stuff.
One sneak peak at the front is all I post for now.

As it sits now, the shape is still not complete as I need to refine most of it. You can see the upper hull shape though, the major change to come is the turret and the turret deck. I have decided to put the 88 in this little beastie. Not sure how I am going to mount it though along with all the recoil and flash I want in the Tank but that is off in the near future anyway. I do want this to be an active IR battle tank.
So other than the hull I have system power switches located ( 2 of them as I hope to have a surprise attachment on this ) and the speaker mounted. The rear deck will be split down the middle and will open like swinging doors to allow interior access to the motors and battery box. Battery charging will be done through a connection I will hide in the loaders hatch at the back of the turret. I plan on having the sound control, lights master and fuses placed in the other hatches on the rear deck for easy access.
Suspension is droning on and if anybody has 12 pcs 3/8 or smaller springs that can hold 20kg of static pull force I would appreciate knowing where I can obtain them. Compression springs will not give me enough travel so I need to reverse the force and have the springs pulled on. See Mustclime's pics a couple posts back and I think you will understand what I am going to do.
To date you are looking at an aproximate spend of $145.00 Cdn and I have a spare bit of plastic sheet about 40 inches x 90 inches lol enough to do my SKDZ for the master Vampyre system.

Ok, don't take this the wrong way.....one of the really cool things about germen armor in ww2 was how they fit the armor togather with tabs. I am working on my e50 turret and i am trying to not only put the armor togather with tabs but I am trying to get the thickness of the plastic card to scale. That means for a 8 inch peace of plate armor, 1 mm plastic card will not do it.
you get a chance, read through this thread.....

No issue mate. I look forward to opinions from everybody on how I can do a better build.
I was planning on engraving/making weld seems where all the tabs would be after I get the structure done.
I read that site and saw some of the pics, pretty good stuff. Hope mine looks as good when I am finished.
FYI though 0.160 plastic sheet at a 60 deg angle is close enough to scale for me.
great thing about a what if tank is nobody can say I am wrong for doing what I want.

Re: German Armour What If?
some updates, not much done but I am plugging away every chance I get.
Added an MG, I am remaking the Turret because I didn't like the look of the first one now that I can see it sitting on the hull. It didn't look German to be honest. Got the exhaust on as well and I am starting to work on the spacing and location of the suspension.

LOOKING GOOD! Is this going to be a "working" tank or a static model?

this is going to be a worker bee. I plan on putting an SLU in it or some decent set of electronics and run it off of a Spektrum DX5 or 6. OIf course this is as money allows. I might have some updates later as I think I'll make some progress on the welds and possibly suspension today.
