Re: German Armour What If?
Sneak peek at the rear deck, almost done. After this it is off to the lower hull. I have a set of 3 to 1 gears and some drive wheels coming this week.

Re: German Armour What If?
I can't contain my excitement anymore. Its coming together and I thought I'd tape a few slabs of plastic together to see if it looks like what I envision. I see lots of Panther and some Tiger.
Going to listen to some opinions and see where I go from here. I like what I see but I think their might be too much Panther in her. Tiger in the background is for a scale look.

http://en.valka.cz/viewtopic.php/t/117191" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
hare is some more info on the e50....and its suspespension...

that explains a lot.......for me anyway.

Thanks for the pics, looks like you could actually build that suspension in scale. I haven't tried that yet but I am going to pick up some brass tube tomorrow. Maybe I could use some springs from an RC car, stuff them in the tube and put a gear on a suspension arm. As the wheel rises it should compress the spring. You could control the travel by the size of the gear and the number of teeth on your compression shaft.
This would have been a game changer for manufacturing and certainly the "What If" I am looking for.
This is awesome stuff. Those German Engineers certainly did have some great ideas.

I think the big thing with this is the springs could be poped in someones basment as opposed to making 10 ft long torsion bars. The hulls of the kt and panther needed 18 precision holes cut in plat armor and all the holes drilled and tapped in the same armor. This design kust needed some holes drilled and tapped into the side plates.I had thought the boogie had a pivot point on the hull but this looks like it was bolted on the hull like the sherman.
I just picked up a hl kingtiger to convert to a ir battle e-50/75. I am thinking about making the tank rwd, if I do this, do I lower the hull deck and move the turret forwards? The tank would not be so high with out all that "stuff" under the turret and the crew compartment. The suspension and track alinment looks like it will be pretty easy ***knocks on wood*** using hl running gear.

Re: German Armour What If?
mustclime I would move the turret, if your going for that E50/75 look the KT will need to be changed. The suspension I am making and have already started grinding the teeth on a compression piston. This will need to be made a couple times probably to get correct scale but that should be fine.

Yea, the turret is going to get cut up. The working parts of the turret are on the roof and the floor. The main issue useing the hl turret is how long the recoil unit / elevation units are togather....I may have the turret be a little longer than the drawings show. The front fenders will have to go along with the front plate mg and light. The front plates were supose to be set at 60 degrees to maximaze armor thinkness( I have found no change with the side armor angel??!!)......as for the suspension, thinking I am going to rig something up using the hl lca and the twist springs, the trick is going to be keeping the track line right with some kind of flax bogie unit there. Wheel spacing will also be interesting.
Re: German Armour What If?
found another couple of pics that might help....this is a scale on ft shot of the suspension...the wheels are 800cm like the kt

here are some others I find interesting.......

this a motor placment shot.......

hope these help
