It's in the blood, I reckon. Her Dad runs our Model Shop/Tank Club.

Wow, nice work on your first attempt. The subtle coloring and effects look great!

Re: The Missus Takes a Hand
Thankyou Maintcoder. I liked the idea of making it not so much dirty, but worn. After all it is an Ausf F(1) and to having survived to the last days of 44, it should not be in the best condition.
Now that I have solved the topcoat problem, I was to work on grease, dust, smoke and the likes on the weekend.

The Sherman arrives next week and, as it is not going to be a true club machine, I get to modify it. I think I shall add a dozer blade, or one of those nifty multiple rocket racks. We shall see.... There is plenty of info on here, so I think I shall be fine.
In the meanwhile, here are some of my experiments with weathering compounds on the PzIV. The rust is a little heavy at the moment, but will be subdued - once Darren hs finally cleaned out the airbrush again.

And the tonedown begins, thanks to a gallon of acetone.

Thank you, Caddy.
Well, I have done models before, just not tanks of this scale. It's not like I picked up a brush last week for the first time. Still, I am cautious. I'm going straight for the Sherman next and while that might seem like a simple colorscheme, compared to the German I think it will pose a greater challenge. It is easier to hide my mistakes in a cammo scheme and harder on flat color.
Which brings me to...
I'm having trouble with highlighting on this now. I want to keep the grimy look, but I don't know how to pick out the highlights effectively. Drybrush with a lighter grey? Or rust? Anyone who is not Fat, Yorkshireish, opinionated and sitting on my sofa at the moment have anything to share?
I want to get this sorted out for the M4.
Oh burgers...... I'm on his account. Anyway, he won't notice.

Re: The Missus Takes a Hand
The high lights for a tank is a bit of a "personal thing", as in each to their own.. some will go fine lines on a spray gun , others will use powers, some will go for the underneath paint colour and use that as chipping..I'm having trouble with highlighting on this now.
there are quite a few threads on this, in builds and in the paint section..pick one that suits your needs at the time and you feel comfortable using..
All the best caddy

The final form. I went in with dry-brushing and weathering powders. The effects don't show up too well in the photos, but it works for me.
