New to me Version of German Camo Paint Style

Post by Dietrich »

Hi Guys, :~
I have just found this style of Camo-paint that I have never seen AT ALL before and I thought that some brave soul might like to use it on their tank..it is a very interesting effect, AND you can use a Stencil !
The principle seems to be to spray the vehicle in the usual fuzzy edged colours of green and brown over a yellow base coat, and then apply the stencil and over-spray AGAIN with the yellow base coat. I think that it produces a really interseting and different finish to the Panzer.....it is certainly out of the ordinary !! :~

THIS IS THE CLEAREST PHOTO THAT I HAVE SEEN AND SHOWS THE PATTERN VERY WELL...ALTHOUGH PERHAPS A BIT 'FRESH' AND NEEDS WEATHERING DOWN...ALSO NOTE THE LARGE NUMBER OF DOTS PLACED INTO THE NONE STENCILED AREAS OF COLOUR !!

I have pondered this for my Panther. R01 seems to have this pattern on it's side skirts. I have a plotter for cutting vinyl sheeting that I was going to work on a stencil for it later on this summer..

Here are some more I found also..

Here's a 35th scale stencil (go figure)

I am in the middle of starting my new basement, so it would be a few months before I could do this for 16th scale but I will do it

Hi mcevoyi , :~
Its a beautiful conversion, but I am sorry to ask you is the tank really that red ? It seems a bit 'distinctive' to have that colour on a battlefield.....are the crew expecting to live long,or since they are an Anti-Aircraft vehicle is it a double bluff to sucker in dive bombers ??

Hi Iain,
Phew that is a relief...I thought that it was a weird colour for a tank........ a WW1 aircraft maybe...... but not a WW2 A-A tank......
Since JayBrd, had kindly supplied an article with 'Archer Transfers' email address on it I thought that I would ask them to see if there were any plans to do 1/16th Scale.....and Here is their reply....

Hi Alb,

No plans for these in 1/16 but we are looking for a source of stencils.
If you are on our mailing list, you'll receive an announcement if/when we do them.

Excuse the short note - I'm on vacation this week.

So its a No then :( ............. No problem....we will just have to make our own stencils......I suspect that the Germans only had 1 or 2 stencils available for each tank so really it shouldn't be that difficult to use......except for me as I a Cr*9 at painting :haha:
My son has a load of small round different colour stickers that could be attached together to make a stencil....OR a better idea..... is to use one of the hand held, hole punch, type 'pliers' ,( that are used to make holes in leather) to make a series of holes in a piece of Plasti-card. This could then be mounted and 'framed' onto a larger piece of cardboard to make sure that there is NO overspray when the stencil is in use...
