M26 Pershing side skirts

Hi
Can anyone shed some light on when the side skirts were removed from the sides of the M26 Pershing tank please? Was it during WW2 or was it in Vietnam?

I am building an 1/8th scale M26, but want to keep it WW2 era. Skirts on or off? (So to speak). Looks better with them off.

I have no information about the side shirts and would think they were not needed in Korea. The Phershings service life was short but the M46 Patton was used in Korea and VIETNAM. So perhaps you could describe where you are getting your information and we can help to figure out what information is accurate. Saxondog

hi, the sideskirts were still used in ww2, but were removed during korea , hope this helps

Thanks for the replies. I am modelling from a 1/16th Heng Long scale Pershing that I bought a few years ago. I want to keep it WW2 era, so I guess the skirts will have to go on. I am referencing various articles on the M26 on the internet and this very forum.

I cannot however fing any indication as to when the skirts were removed and why.

Any more info would bve greatly appreciated.

All M-26's came with skirts but crews used to remove them as they tended to clog up with mud.

Very few M-26's made it into combat in WWII.

When I was building my tamiya Pershing, I decided to model it after an actual tank that fought in ww2. "Fireball" was the tank I chose and it did indeed have it's skirts installed. Some did not. Either way would be correct. The phone on the rear would not be installed though. Also, some ww2 Pershings had T-81 tracks installed, not the T-84's. Hope this helps some. It is only a scratch build, stand off scale (about 100 metres). Not accurate. Roughly modelled on my Heng Long Pershing. I have only done the lower hull so far. I have had it running. I get about an hour from a 12V 22 AH battery that also runs my homemade smoker.

Tracks made from door hinges. Homemade TRIPact speed controller allows me to control it from just oine stick on the transmitter.

Wow, what an interesting build! Great idea to use hinges for the tracks, keep the pics coming!
