KV-1 + TBU Leningrad Street Fighter
Re: KV-1 + TBU Leningrad Street Fighter
Very nice looking tank mate
Re: KV-1 + TBU Leningrad Street Fighter
Thank you guys,
Here a few more tanker figure photos. This is a pretty basic kit to assemble, modifications or not, and like the Tamiya Sherman kits, will make a good first Tamiya RC tank as more people discover it is out there.

eBay Update: KV-1 + TBU Leningrad Street Fighter
The KV was on eBay 1 hour and 13 minutes and sold. Amazing.
Up next for 2011, a Tiger II with the alleged Porsche designed turret + TBU using a similar parts list as the KV-1.
Per the last photo below, I think I will finish my KT project similar to prototype number 2, the big cat confiscated at the end of WWII now living and well cared for at the Bovington Tank Museum.
A. Work & Parts Project List for the Tamiya Static Tiger II Porsche Turret Tank
• Install Tamiya Battle Unit; mounted in turret cupola
• LED Emitter; mounted in mantlet with DT tube
• Rework gearboxes with DT upgrades
• Install ETO rear reduction units with black motors, pinion gears, mount color coded wire leads on motors
• Daryl Turner Gearbox Mount Brace; install
• Make and install rear hull brace to support the rear deck; fit with the speaker box; and brace the hull
• Install speaker box
• Install Daryl Turner Spring Loaded Idler Return System
• Idlers Machined for Bearings if feasible
• Install HL Pz3 rotation unit and turret rotation gear ring
• Make a metal main gun trunnion platform to work with the Porsche type turret top
• Fit, fabricate a metal mount sleeve for mantlet & main gun barrel to work with the Tamiya recoil unit
• Make and fit a recoil stay to mount for Tamiya recoil unit operation
• Make a platform to mount and fit a Tamiya elevation unit to operate the main gun barrel
• Daryl Turner Metal Elevation Arm; install
• Install flash unit in barrel
• Machined metal DMD tray; quick removal
B. Parts List
1. Tamiya Static Tiger II Porsche Turret tank kit
2. Tamyia KT recoil gun barrel
3. Axel's gear reduction units
4. DMD Gearboxes with low torque black can motors and pinion gears
5. TBU
6. KT DMD units with comm cable
7. HL Pz3 turret ring
8. HL Pz3 turret rotation motor with Tamiya plug to be attached
9. Tamiya KT recoil unit
10. Tamiya KT elevation unit (with KT mount stay)
11. Tamiya KT speaker box
12. Futaba 2.4 radio transmitter and receiver with left stick return arm and spring
13. 7.2v Tank Battery
14. Impact tracks and 18 tooth drive sprockets
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, John

Re: KV-1 + TBU Leningrad Street Fighter
perfect KV1 and that on 1/16 its a huge improvement so real well done mate
Re: KV-1 + TBU Leningrad Street Fighter
Great build thread, I like the KV1 but I think it looks even better with the T34 85 turret. The standard barrell just looks ineffective.
Re: KV-1 + TBU Leningrad Street Fighter
Hi,
Thank you, the KV-1 was a fun build and kind of a break though model for me in terms of adding thoughtful and well designed performance enhancement. The Soviet KV-1 does seem to be more a mobile battering ram than a gun platform (underwhelming main gun for sure) and with that thought in mind, I did think about about using this KV to run over and flatten my Tamiya Pz 4 during backyard play, but instead sold the KV off and horse traded away the Pz to Daryl Turner.
The good news is that those two past builds opened the door and allowed me to team with Daryl Turner to build an amazing, slick f/o Tamiya Porsche KT conversion. Plus, currently on the work bench are two "WIP conversions to full option": a new static Leo 1A and a new Gepard, incorporating innovative designed build solutions using DT prototype custom metal light weight machined parts.
Work in progress write ups underway:

Buckeye36: KV-1 & 2 Idler Issues
Saw your post on another forum Buckeye36:
And that is the weak link on the Tamiya KV 1 & 2 models: serious hull flex, the OEM idler setup is not sturdy enough for TBU play etc etc.
Talk to Daryl Turner who solved all the issues for my build and a tanker who participates at Danville Battles bought my model before I could actually play with it.
So look for that KV-1 at Danville to check out the modifications.
How is Sherman Jiving Joan II doing, have your taken it to Danville?

Re: KV-1 + TBU Leningrad Street Fighter
I just got back from Danville yesterday ( second trip for Jiving Joan II),She held her own and then some
Daryl was there and I talked to him about the KV mods and he's building a idler set up for me.
I also bought a new lower hull to install Daryl's parts in.
