Friends,
The prototype Animated Tank Commander Control Circuit works. This is a picture of the very rough prototype.
The lower board has the relay, resistor, transistor and 4 diodes. The other round board houses the reed switches and provides a motor mount fo the 58:1 6VDC Gearhead Motor. It also provides a mount for the figure.
During the I also found a way to pop the commander out and place another figure in. I am making some PCBs this week and hope to have the final version done by the weekend.

Nice job! So I am not the only one running out to Radioshack after work.......
when you get the final version done...would you mind doing a detailed schematic write-up?

Re: It Lives
I sure will. Don't go to the Shack just yet. Electronics goldmine is far better, and has that beautiful little 58:1 gearhead motor.
I will indeed be doing a step by step how to including a PBC you can print out.
This is great.
Oh and you guys must try out FreePCB In a few hours you will be designing your own PCBs. Lets say your Proportional Smoker board frys. In a few minutes you have another ready to go.
OR.........you could make all your smokers proportional.

Little delay in completion friends.
I need to go to the depot for a little maintenance. Don't worry I'll be back soon and be briging you working tanks commanders!

Re: It Lives
Friends,
At Long last the Final design for the Working Tanker PBC is Done!
The board will measure 1 3/4" X 1 3/4" That is just about as small as I can get it.
Is there a common tank (ie) H/L, Matto, Tamiya that will have trouble finding room for the board?
From the board you will have four leads runing to the turret. These will be attached to the the two reed switches that tell the guy to start moving and when to get back to his starting point. The board will need a momentary pulse from either the RX-18, or the ElMod. RX-13 and 14 guys may have to tap off the MG. The gearhead motor is powered from 7.2 volts. This is a 12VDC motor but works just great with the 7.2. That along with 58:1 Gear ratio makes for a realistic rate of motion.
I wonder if that motor can be adapted for turret rotation? Hummmmmmmmmm.
In addition and quite by accident. The mounting design for the figure, makes him kinda loose. I was worried about that until I accidently moved the tank forward. He moved backward like a real person would if the tank just started out. So I left it as is. It looks really great! As soon as my son the Chef is done with the ole digital camera I will get some video of him operating with the prototype board in Tiger 1334.
Once this little project is done and I heal up. The next will bethe driver that lefts the hatch, raises up, lowers his arm then looks around. Then when ordered, lifts his arm, and shuts the hatch as he lowers into the hull.
Then I hope to have a break dancing loader.
