Advice re. Adding HL 7.0 barrel smoke
Hi, I'd really like to add barrel smoke to my Bulldog - I've read/watched a few descriptions but I'm still not clear. Can someone please recommend a step by step guide please?
Thanks in advance!

Shows the 6.0/6.1, but it is the same for 7.0/7.1.

Does the smoke generator have to be live (heating)!all the time or does it heat instantly as the main gun s fired?

It heats continuously. It’s the pump which blows the smoke out. It gives out the best smoke after a minute or two of being switched on.

So, although this is in my 1/8 scale tank, I am using the same sized heater you would use in a 1/16 scale tank powered at 6V, and it only takes a few seconds to heat up to the point where you can blow smoke out of it.BulldogDave wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 7:10 pmThank you!Meter rat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 6:53 pm https://www.rctanklegion.com/products/n ... -flash-kit

The board I am using allows me to turn the heater on and off at will, so I only turn it on when I want to show it off, then keep it turned off otherwise.
If you are installing this in a 1/16 HL and want to keep your Airsoft unit, here is a video I made on how to do that.

Meter rat pretty much nailed it for you. Here is another video walking through the installation process. The kit they are using is the initial much more expensive one. The current kit is about $30 from Toucan hobby.
Here is another video from Toucan themselves showing all the components and how it all comes together-

Annnnnnd just to make you want it that much more.....BulldogDave wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 6:45 pm Hi, I'd really like to add barrel smoke to my Bulldog -

Here is how it's all set up in the turret-

The black square box is the heater unit it is situated so the filling tube comes up through the commanders copula. The Cylinder next to the black box is the pump that pulls the smoke from the heater and routes to the rear of the barrel. To the left of the edge of the picture is the control board that operates the heater and pump motor for this. It is all plugged into the board at the bottom of the picture that runs control into CN5 in the main board in the lower body of the tank which is labeled WiFi but is commonly used to run this smoke/flash gimmick-

That's a superb install! Thanks for sharing the photos - I've just added a flashing led to the coaxial .30 cal off led 5 and that's given me a chance to figure out dismantling the turret and a look at the BB unit. I have a concern about burning the smoke generator out so will only turn on when wanting to show the feature off!MrChef wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 5:19 pmAnnnnnnd just to make you want it that much more.....BulldogDave wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 6:45 pm Hi, I'd really like to add barrel smoke to my Bulldog -

"It only takes a few seconds to heat up to the point where you can blow smoke out of it." Finally, for years I have been asking you all for professor jokes.
