HL BB shooting unreliable

Post by KernelClinq »

HI folks,

Brand new M26. Fired half a dozen BBs just fine, but then it didn't. Based on research, I didn't bother with the factory orange BBs, opting instead for "Bulldog" brand 20g biodegradable BBs. So, anyway, after a while the tank got to where the gun would "wind up" and fire, but nothing came out. After several attempts to shoot it will either:
  • Wind-up, fire, and 2 or more BBs would just plop out
  • Not wind up and push a BB out the muzzle
  • Wind up and do nothing
  • Not wind up, and fire a BB
  • Wind up & "fire", but not expel the BB for a second or two afterward
To troubleshoot, I did open the box/bag of OEM orange BBs (and yes, they are garbage at first glance). Tried a few of the better ones and observed basically the same behavior as described above.

Is this common? Any thoughts on remediation?

What (if any) is the protocol for clearing bore obstructions and ensuring the chamber is empty?

All the best,

I have had some dry fires. But it's very infrequent.

Try some of the HL provided BBs. See what happens.
Or maybe feed em one at a time.

Did you extend the cannon? If yes, you may need to
realign it.

:) Hello,
As mentioned in the previous message, have you done anything unusual (mishandling) with the barrel? On the barrel (the part not visible), there's a small hole at the end that creates a vacuum, then a small rubber piston, and a large spring that compresses. Perhaps there's a problem? To check, you need to open the mechanism (carefully!!!). Be careful with the spring, as it tends to come loose easily. Have you visually inspected the inside of the barrel? When unloaded? Does everything work normally? In principle, when firing a blank, you should feel a slight jet of air at the end.

Forgive me, KernelClinq: I have nothing more helpful to offer than you see above. On must simply go into the parts, disassembling them with care, even taking photos each step of the way, checking for any possible defect or jam. I, too, am always anxious when doing so, but with caution, proceeding slowly, I usually find the problem. Should you dive in, don't hesitate to put up photos for others here on RCTW to see. So many have experience who may see and identify the problem, and the fix, for you.

(And, I confess, double entendre is rife in michaelwhittmann's and Joufaur86's posts above, too.)

Dang, I didn't even notice the bawdiness of those replies HDP, until you mentioned it...and then you even suggested posting pictures for others to see!
I do believe I'm feeling the vapours coming on!

Yes, some careful dissection is in order. It sounds like there's something causing the bb's to feed unpredictably, or not at all. Normally you'll hear the motor winding up, a very slight pause, and then the pop as it fires the bb. I'd keep an eye out for some plastic flash around the feed hopper, or a broken bit of plastic or some of the heavy grease they use that's gumming things up and causing irregular bb feeding or sometimes not at all.

Good Afternoon,
I've seen these symptoms before. I believe from prior experience that what has occurred is that the rubber sheath around the end of the metal inner barrel is torn, misaligned or has fallen off. This helps to seal when the piston comes forward and if there is a problem with it, you will see the Shot just plop out of the end of the barrel or sometimes multiple Shot rolling out caused by one just sitting in the chamber and another gravity feeding to sit behind it. This was a big problem with early versions of the Firing Mechanism. They seem to be much improved of late as the one on the new King Tiger I am working on will ricochet all around the room and crack glass if you are not careful where it is aimed. Good Luck, you will get it figured out. New Guns and Parts are widely available starting with the Forums own Forgebear Tanks...
