Stug III with Taigen Barrel Recoil?

Post by MrChef »

I'm searching the web, here, etc. has no one been as stupid as me to try this? :haha: :haha: :haha:

Granted I know that servos are Gods gift and the way of the future, (yes I'm a convert) but I've got one or two of these units laying around and got to thinking. Mr. Stug would love a recoiling barrel.

Anyone?

Seems it'll fit. Just likely need to fashion a proper mount which will likely require me to hack and slash a BB unit too but what the heck, I love the smell of burnt plastic in the morning...

Seems like lots more room down here than the PzIII.

I was stupid enough to do one in my Jagdtiger & that worked.
Also grafted one into the resin Casemate on my JS152 .
The Jagdtiger into was since modified with a servo to operate the recoil and was easy enough to do

Got 6 StuGs, neither one has the barrel recoil.
I am too stupid to fool around with electronics!
Good luck.

You can connect everything, but I'm not sure you'll fit it all in there. Have you considered servo recoil?

Good Morning, MrChef!
Yes it will fit and yes it will work. Key word here is work. My StuG Ausf B has the Taigen recoil. I fitted it because it came new in the Pz3 from Taigen that I used as a Base for that Combo Build.

Painless
But I did and it worked to add flash to the barrel of the MP 40 I used as the Aux MG

Well thank you Mr. B. and of course Mr. PainlessWolf. and thank you for sharing that picture as well.

Questions though, did you mount the barrel directly to the unit or did you need to modify a bit? And if so do you have pictures of that mount or modification? It definitely looks like a job I'll undertake. Ironically looks easier than other things I've done that initially thought would be very difficult.

Thanks Kaczor, yes I've considered servo but would prefer to use this unit as I have a few. If all fits and works as Mr.Wolf attests then it will be a cinch. It's particularly attractive as to how the rewiring needs to be done is perfect for a Non turret tank.

H'mm come to think of it I may have to do the same for my Jagdpanther  :haha: :haha:

Rob, I'm still a novice with electronics but I have pushed myself to learn more. It never interested me before but necessity is the mother of invention as they say... And of course I need barrel recoil :D

Good Morning, MrChef!
Everything along with all textual griping, etc, should be here in the Build Thread. The biggest Bit of Issue came from having a nice Aluminum Short Barrel that came with the Resin Profiline Kit. The interior diameter of that Barrel was too small for the Flash Led provided with the recoil mechanism. I had to make up a different Barrel. Turned out Ok but stuck with me over the years.
