Hi to all, from a newbie to the forum.

Post by zippy »

I'm returning to RC tanks, after a hiatus of nearly 20 years. Things have moved on a great deal, so I'm going to be full of questions, Be gentle! :headbang: :D

Hello and welcome to the forum

Best to be full of questions than full of :poop: like me....
Thought I'd say that before anyone else did lol.

Make sure you are clued up on what is actually the latest tech here, rather than some selling sites that will try to over-charge for old stock.

Enjoy the forum

Welcome to the forum Zippy.

Care to share what RC tank you had all those years ago?

Hello there, zippy! I see that you already have some information from others. I am curious as to what RC tanks you already have. I have been at this for about twenty years, and I have a few moldy oldies among my ridiculously large accumulation. Well, no real mold...

Hi Herr Dr Professor,
Sorry for the delay in replying, but I've been locked out of the forum since my last post, until about 5 minutes ago. - No clue how/why... If anyone has an Email address for a Mod (in case it happens again) PM me.
I have 5 RC tanks, all modded. I have an "Old Skool" Tamiya King tiger, which I got 2nd hand . It's been customised, but is currently in bits, as it ate its gearbox. I'm aiming to sort it over the Winter.
I have a Heng Long first issue M26 Pershing, which is just about running, no mods but a bit of detailing/weathering.
A Heng Long Tiger I, first issue. that one was bought new, then customised to look like Tiger 131, - before it was famous & nearing completion. That one was made for my wife to run. It also needs major repairs, after it was run on a chipping driveway & picked up some stones, which got caught in the tracks & destroyed the road wheels. That one needs an internal upgrade _ a metal parts refit - especially the swing arms!
last of the oldies is the WSN (remember them? :O ) T34/85. That is a superb looking tank, - but was electrically very deficient! I Heng Long-ed that one immediately! :headbang: I see it has been re-release, under a different name now, with much better internals.

My latest tank is the Hl Challenger 2, in TK 7.0 flavour, with all the important metal upgrades. I'm going to run it a bit, then strip it for a realistic paint job & do my 360 rotation mod on it. I see they sell that as parts now! :O There was no such thing back in 2005/6! At least I don't have to make it all myself this time. :D If all goes well, I'll upgrade each tank in turn with modern HL parts...

Interesting side note...Dust is very difficult to remove, if your tank has been left on a high shelf for 10 years or more...! 8O

The "lock out" problem is new to most of us. See "Recent Website Issues" at viewtopic.php?t=37637 if you haven't already. Matdragon takes care of us tirelessly.

"Tamiya King Tiger": I have the static kit, bought at least 15 years ago. Once in a while I look at the instructions and wonder about building it static.

"Heng Long first issue M26 Pershing": I learned that it's actually a T26E3, see: viewtopic.php?p=356775&hilit=T26E3#p356775 and use the Search function, upper right, to see better examples.

"Heng Long Tiger I first issue...customised to look like Tiger 131": You will see that the Tiger 1 has posting upon posting upon posting here on RCTW, much to the chagrin of MeterRat (a great RCTW guy).

"WSN T34/85:" Yep, Waterson is gone, but the HengLong and Torro/Taigen ones are good runners.

"Challenger 2:" I just updated my older Challenger 2 to TK7.0 with light weathering. I still haven't chosen markings.
