RC / ADHD / where the F. should i start...

Post by TheLokiCZ »

Hi, im Luke.. i just started to build my own piece of art, RC tank in scale about 1:6? Im not realy sure :D Im from family of hobby model builders and crafters of any thing you can think of..
Im building a model of Flugabwehrkanonenpanzer Gepard or just Flakpanzer Gepard. Not exact replica, im modeling and building all from the scratch with my Bambu lab 3D printer, and help of my family members.
If you want to see my progress, you can go there : https://linktr.ee/TheLokiCZ . My major dificulty and problem now is the suspension for those 14 track wheels. I was wondering about using some RC car parts to make it happen but im not sure if it will hold about 50 Kg of weight. (this is the part about not exactly making replica, i want ot use suspension like for car for each wheel) Any ideas? What to think of? Is there better way to make it? My mind is kinda exploding by my AD/HD and i hope i will not quit half the way before completing it :haha: :headbang:

Thanks for any ideas and any kind of help!

You could try motorbility scooter suspension, if you can get it, or make you own leaf springs would be easier and cheaper

Also many us would find it much easier to help if you add photos here rather than a link. Not all of us are tech savvy and build the old way

oh, sorry, my bad, i include a screenshots from my 3D modeling program. I find this as easyest way to make a suspension for it. Green part is shock absorber, made just for example.
So reather than using RC car shock absorber i should watch for ones from like scooters, minibikes or something like that? Thats interesting, i like it o-

If you can find a spring to go over that shock that should be enough, what is the diameter of the widest part of the shock where the spring would need to go over

If you give me a size of the shock, I may be able to find a source for exact shock and spring or just the spring there are many options if I know the size

But depending on what you want to spend on it, would it be worth you looking at some of the 1/6th scale build threads on these very forums

If you want springs that can handle weight, check out "die springs". They are designed to handle repetitive die punching for industrial use. The springs are extremely stiff for their size. I have them on my scratch built 1/6th scale KV-2 project.

Perhaps a photo of the springs or a link for the supplier may help tankme. I only deal in 1/16 so it’s quite easy for me to source my springs

It's around 100 mm, but it's measured based on the current position of the wheels on my 3D model. Specifically, the position when the suspension is already under pressure, and it indicates the current height from the ground. I think I might need slightly longer shocks that will compress to the desired diameter once the weight is applied. Does that make sense? I'm not sure if I'm expressing myself correctly. I can speak english but you know, im new to this and i somethimes dont know how the things are said in my language :D im using ChatGPT to translate.
