Thanks - found that OK when I got home and had the luxury of a decent 'tinter-net connection :)

OSHKOSH

Post by zooma »

I have just bought a 1/72 scale AFV kit of the OSHKOSH tractor unit and trailer to use as a helpful reference when starting to scratch build a cab from plastic card to fit onto a suitable Tamiya chassis.

You might consider using your OSHKOSH model as a template for building the cab. Many people share their projects on forums, along with photos that could be helpful. It might be worth checking model shops or 3D platforms where you can find ready-made parts to ease your build😊

We are currently scaling-up the OSHKOSH cab from the kit with reference along the way to any drawings and photo reference that we can find - in particular to anything that details the differences that can be seen on the unit developed for use with the British Army.

The cab is intended to be grafted onto the Tamiya Scania 8 x 4/4 chassis so I think it could work out really well - and give me a new Scania cab to sell-on afterwards!

This project will help to bring the Rossendale r/c Truck and Tank Club members even closer together as a shared interest project.

Once completed we will then look at the various different low loader trailers that have been used by the British Army to transport their Modern Tanks and I am really looking forward to seeing it completed and hauling my Challenger 11 and Chieftain Mk3 and Mk5 ......as well as other NATO tanks such as my various Leopard 2A6 (and maybe some of the older tanks such as the Leopard 4 and Centurion could hitch an occasional lift too!).

We fully understand that this will not be a quick build - but we are making a start, so it will "take as long as it takes" ......and then we will have the trailer type and specification to decide upon

We are aware of a 3D printed OSKOSH cab that is available (but not how to find out who has it and to see some pictures etc), but at this this stage we are looking to build this model from scratch using a plastic card cab and fitting it onto the Tamiya Heavy Haulage tractor chassis as a starting point (to be refined as needed at a later date after it is "up and running").

The trailer is most likely to need fully "scratch building" and we have some time to look at all the various types that have been used.......and well as to consider any other tractor unit that the British Army have used since the Cold War that could be of some interest as well.

If anything should 'crop-up" along the way such as a ready built or part built tank transporter of the correct size we could be interested in buying that too as it could get us moving in the meantime and add to our military transport collection.

I will picture and share the build as it comes along, but this will be a slow project as we have tanks to build and r/c truck drivers to convert to making military models rather than their current shiny ones..............:)

Bob.

I have a memory of an Antar hauling a multi axle King trailor round the Roundabout at the bottom of Gun hill in Aldershot,
The driver went the right way round which for his vehicle was the wrong way and he blew nearly every tyre on the kerb which took 2 AEC 6 wheelers worth of spare tyres from Retford to fix, Oh how the local constabulary laughed NOT.
