Modern Tank Transporter
Modern Tank Transporter
Our local model club combines r/c model tanks and trucks and I would like to find a suitable tank transporter to carry my various NATO tanks.
I am guessing that a suitable 4axle Tamiya truck could be made into a good military tractor unit, but I would still need to fabricate a realistic low loader trailer.
Has anyone already gone down this route and can suggest a good source of reference materials or maybe someone makes a 3D printed cab such as the Oshkosh or similar modern tank transporter tractor unit or trailer?
I am also guessing that there are no 1/16 scale military tank transporters currently available?

Re: Modern Tank Transporter
A search for tank transporter search.php?keywords=tank+transporter gave 261 results. many of these are found in the other related hobbies/RC cars and trucks: viewforum.php?f=81 7 pages of builds, several that are tank transporters.

I converted a Tamiya Scania into an M26 Dragon Wagon.
I currently have a Tamiya Grand Hauler for sale if you wanted a good base for a low loader hauler

I bought an HG 1/12 P801/2 Tractor unit and an HG 1/12 P806 Trailer it is based very accurately on the American Army's 747 low loader with lights and servo powered ramps and landing legs.zooma wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 9:34 am Our local model club combines r/c model tanks and trucks and I would like to find a suitable tank transporter to carry my various NATO tanks.

The combination is 1/12 but a 1/16 Heng Long Abrams looks dead right on the back of the trailer, Very expensive indivdually £450+ (a little cheaper as a kit) or as a rig but the nearest alterative is the Cross Tractor and Trailer which is a quarter the price again £800.
In 1/16 the Bruder low loader is the very cheap go to low loader but it is far too small for modern armour although my Panzer 4s look nice on it.
Looks nice behind a converted Heng Long 6 wheeler.

Re: Modern Tank Transporter
That might work with a scratch built Oshkosh cab..........
Never too old to learn........
OSHKOSH
I have just sent away for the TACOM kit of the Oshkosh tank transporter and trailer to use as a reference of a modern tank transporter to see if I can scale it up with a view to fit it onto a Tamiya 1/14 scale truck chassis.
It is only 1/72 scale, but it will give me something to work from.

Re: HG.
The HG P 801/802 is a model of the American army's HEMMT heavy duty tractor introduced into service in 1982 so if you were so inclined instead of running it with an Abrams if you paint it in Olive Drab and mark it in Berlin Brigade colours you could load a Tongde/Haya/Tamiya Centurion denoting a cold war Truck and Tank, zooma wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 9:00 amThanks for your comments - I have never heard of the HG tractor unit and trailer, so I will start trying find out about them onlinejarndice wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 11:48 amI bought an HG 1/12 P803/4 Tractor unit and an HG 1/12 P806 Trailer it is based very accurately on the American Army's 747 low loader with lights and servo powered ramps and landing legs.zooma wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 9:34 am Our local model club combines r/c model tanks and trucks and I would like to find a suitable tank transporter to carry my various NATO tanks.

Just a suggestion.

1/12 scale HG Tractor Unit
The only place I have found the 1/12 HG tractor unit for sale has been a sand coloured one on Pelican Hobby via eBay.
It looks good - do you have any pictures of it that you could share with a tank on the trailer to help judge the size of it by any chance?
......I was thinking it might look good towing a suitable trailer loaded with my HAYA Chieftain.......
