WORLDS WORST CARS !!

Post by HERMAN BIX »

We’ve all had ‘em.
Let’s take a toolbox down memory lane for fond reminiscing of the awful cars we had!
Hell, we might even still have

I blush at the clunkers I have parted good money with to buy, :{
A Sunbeam Rapier :poop: that was 4/5th hand that dumped all its petrol when the unknown to me rusting fuel tank finally gave up the ghost in the works carpark,
Oh the humiliation as the fire brigade washed a weeks wages of 5 star down the drain not to mention the cost of arranging a tow home with the thing.
It it any wonder that I started using my motorbike  as my daily commute.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

That we have owned, or can they be ones that older brothers have owned?

I can say with a clear conscience (and a car nut for almost 50 years) that I have never owned a "worst" car. And yes I had a Miata (wonderful autocross car).

Cars you’ve actually owned and driven.

I’ve had:

Mk 1 Cortina wish I still had it (the only one)
Ford Prefect with a 100 E engine
Morris Minor 1000 single screen
Hillman Hunter
Hillman Avenger
Triumph PI with a TC engine that went like the clappers but thought it was sponsored by Saudi Aramco Oil Company the fuel it burnt!
Toyota Corrona
Mitsi Lancer
Valliant VG with a 245 Hemi (holly :poop: that was a tough gas guzzling thing) that I named the Exxon Valdez as it held as much fuel and was almost as long :haha:

My Dad was a fan of Morris
A venerable Oxford , Minis (the proper ones not these VW imposters), the 1300 with Hydroelastic suspension!

All ALL were awful, rusted out, could not maintain brakes and didn’t cope with water on the engine electrics , which in NZ was omnipresent !

I briefly had a MK1 Ford Lotus Cortina powered by a 289 (sacrilege, for some) but I did sell it to someone who returned it to its former glory (kept the 289 K code and top loader). Not a turd, wicked fun/fast!

I can't say that it was a terrible car but it was certainly unusual :D
It was an mg metro and had a bodykit based on the 6R4 rally car, I owned it for a couple of years but when my first daughter was born I swapped it for something a little more practical, a mkii Ford XR2 :haha: those were the days

I remember those MG's rally cars from the WRC tour in NZ back in the day.
Insane days those were. Lancias, Audi''s, MG's, bad-ass race cars.

Worst cars are of course subjective, but spending weekends or sometimes weekDAYS working on one to get you to where you need to be is a thing that burns you !!!

That's how I learned most of my mechanical skills Herman, there wasn't a week that went by that something didn't need fixing, most of today's youths can just about manage to put fuel in or plug it into the mains :haha:

My '93 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi, a car of firsts for me and my wife. The first vehicle we ever bought in the same decade it was built (bought in '99, 95000km), our first automatic, our first fully optioned car, our first supercharged engine, and our first North American manufactured vehicle.
Within the next 10,000km the a/c compressor, alternator, crankshaft sensor, passenger power seat, and a rear window lift all died. Followed that up with the formation of a tiny rust bubble on a rear fender arch and it was a trade-in. I really wanted to like it, but what a steaming pile of unreliability.
Traded in on an Isuzu Trooper w 5 speed that was a real...well...Trooper. One of the vehicles I wish I still had today!

That's funny because my stepmother had one of those and swears that was one of the best cars she ever owned...lol

My POS was a '95 Dodge Neon Coupe in Nitro Yellow Green. That car was in the shop 36 times in 38 months that I owned it. Issues started at 1500 miles when the alternator belt come off because they forgot to install one of the two bolts on the alternator from the factory. Fog light shorted out. Backup lights shorted out at the shifter switch. Front end wheel bearings had to be replaced at 5k miles due to them not installing them properly from the factory. Seat foam collapsed on the drivers seat (and I was only 170lbs back then). The rear seat latches were replaced on the drivers side twice and the passenger seat 3 times. The windows never sealed right as air was coming through, they adjusted them, then water came in, they adjusted, then they hit the rain rails causing them to rust, they adjusted, replaced the rain rails, and finally settled for the original air sound. It ate 3 intake and 3 outake oxygen sensors before they realized the engine harness was shorting on the block and had to replace that. I was upside down on that car value wise and then it got hailed on. After the hail repairs there was noticeable overspray so I couldn't sell it (before paintless dent repair was a thing) as everyone saw it had been repainted. The last straw was it wouldn't crank on me one morning. Had to get it towed to a dealer and the dealer said the battery terminals were corroded. Oh, and you owe us $365 for the tow and the service as your car is now 1500 miles out of warranty. Less than a month later it was raining out (which made the paint look good) and I took it to a Mazda dealer trading it for a base model white '97 Miata (MX-5 for you Euro folks). They gave me like $2k more than anyone else had offered. Drove that car for 96k miles and only had to do basic maintenance on it while beating the hell out of it on the track and autocross.
