King Tiger Initial Production (aka Porsche)
Re: King Tiger Initial Production (aka Porsche)
Next step was to add some missing details and correct some of the bits on the tank I was not liking. These included removing the moulded on hatch handles and adding screens to the rear deck along with the little hooks around the raised covers. I also got a 3d printed snorkel cover that was fitted to the rear deck of these early King Tigers.
I also had an old set of Schumo cable holders I salvaged of an old wrecked Tamiya King Tiger a while back so I decided to use these with proper cables rather than than the moulded tow cables that come with the kit. I will scratch a set of the cleaning rods to also go into the holders.

Re: King Tiger Initial Production (aka Porsche)
Thanks John. I was looking at the other build myself and it made me realise I made a mistake as I have the hull with the turret protection ring on it - I have been building tank 11 as well
I will just have to live with it but as I plan to use this one to bash about it is less of an issue. I will get it right next time

"I plan to use this one to bash about": WHAT!?
If I could do that quality of work, I would put it in a glass case (if I had a glass case).

Re: King Tiger Initial Production (aka Porsche)
Mate, I would not worry about the protection ring .I have listed all the things on my tank that will never be correct .Your turret is correct for NO11 as it has two holes for the earlier type gunsight. The Tamiya turret only has one for latter gunsight which is not correct for NO 11 but I can live with it. Hell, MR Bix is telling us some one created a Barbie tank and it was the star of the the show so any thing is correct. My wife thinks this is neat and has suggested I paint one of my tanks pink.
God help us!

Re: King Tiger Initial Production (aka Porsche)
Thank you for the comments and encouragement, it is appreciated. Luckily, I am at the stage that changing my plan is still easy. I can sort the sights on the turret front place easily enough but the turret ring is another matter and it is annoying me I missed it. I have a Tamiya one, new in box, that I plan to build so will do that as 11 and just do this one as a later tank with the turret ring, mesh screens and correct exhausts. The bits I did for it can be put aside until I start the Tamiya Kit.
So, slight change of plan with not too much impact.

Great work so far! I'm going to bookmark this so I can return to it when I start my own. Love how the zimmerit came out.

Re: King Tiger Initial Production (aka Porsche)
I managed to get a bit more done on this in terms of updating it to a later build so that the turret ring was not a problem that would bother me every time I looked at it. I managed to lose some of the pics though and not sure what has happened to them but in the meantime I have taken some of how it looks now.
I removed the snorkel and put the armoured cover on and added the mesh screens to the back deck.
I also started to add the track hangers to the turret sides but need to finish these off.
Tanks has been painted and currently looks like this
Just need to finish the track hanger bits, add the tools and tow cables and then do some detail painting, decals and weathering.
Then it is onto finishing off the electrics etc.

Re: King Tiger Initial Production (aka Porsche)
I have not see those screens contoured under the turret before. Are those part of the Atak kit? You have done them excellently!
Re: King Tiger Initial Production (aka Porsche)
Thank you, they were a pain to do but came out well. They were the Aber set for the Porsche King Tiger.
