It's a great mod for realism and for the fun of driving the tank, but unless the other guys are required to install one, it would be a disadvantage for you in IR combat!  (Similarly, ElMod programming stops the tank when it's hit-- cool, but not a combat advantage.)

I found that setting one trim for slow and the other for fast results in slow acceleration, but fast stopping; driving the tank in reverse is just the opposite-- fast acceleration and slow stopping.  Unlike ElMod's momentum programming, there's no emergency brake by pulling the stick into reverse, so I've set my KT up with slow acceleration and medium deceleration to help avoid coasting into stuff, barrel first.

Besides the fun, I think the most practical value is protection from accidentally driving your tank off your workbench (been there, done that...).

I take it you require two of these units per tank one for each track?

Anyone got any video of one fitted I’m curious to see one in action

Cheap at $10 I guess, but its still no Elmod!  ;D ,The Darkith unit does the same thing, but at least both have brakes for when your barrel is heading for the garden wall.

No, it connects between the receiver and the DMD throttle channel.  It was designed for RC aircraft, to slow the speed of the servo that raises/lowers the landing gear (usually controlled by a 2-position switch).  The DMD controls the mixing of the two motors.

As for video-- it's really more of a driving "feel" thing, since it looks exactly like a standard Tamiya when it's driven realistically. (The only thing that might look different is the Turnigy tank accidently coasting into a wall, LOL.)

No, Rivet, just one per Tank. Goes in between the DMD and radio receiver. I'm gonna go play with mine. Good thing is you can move it from tank to tank if needed, just record your settings.
As we are just writing the rules for IR combat here, being there are at the moment so few tanks in the AO, we are thinking of making it a requirement that you have one for competition combat. They are so cheap that if push comes to shove, we'll keep a few spares around just for newbies to use and get used to. Takes every bit of a minute to install one. True plug and play. Will also write up criteria for the distance to accelerate and decelerate for each tanque..after we return from Odessa and life begins to return to normal around here.

Wibbly, I ain't taking out a few hundred bucks worth of Tamiya electronics and dumping in a few hundred bucks of elmod. Can't afford it for one thing. This device does take some learning to use, and some tweaking on the adjustment pots. We're going to take a couple to Odessa, and will have a Sherm set up for demo and use, but for ourselves, until we get practice, we ain't using it in publik demonstations yet. Still and all, it should make, for about 10 bucks, a big difference in the handling and use of the tank in combat.
As stated, I'm still fooling with it. Will shortly go to the 'fooling room" and play some more. Results will be posted later today or tomorrow.

I think these things are a god send for those of us trying to battle tammys with DBC equiped / metal gearboxed Heng Longs. It's a bit of a cheek to demand folks spend $$$ to slow their 'racing tank' (yes I'm looking at you and your Porsche KT, Matt >:( :o :P ;D ;D ;D ) with expensive gearboxes, but a $10 gizmo to level the playing field is very reasonable.

Hi Rivet only one needed for the Tamiya DMD ,may need two for large scale tanks it depends on how many channels you use for acceleration if you are driving on 2 sticks you will need 2 .

I don't think you'll ever get full parity between mixed groups of systems, since the momentum characteristics of each are slightly different, conferring different advantages & disadvantages.  For example, the DBC's momentum has fairly quick acceleration, but a slow coasting stop... unless you hit reverse, where it stops very quickly, and goes quickly into reverse.  The DBC momentum can also be disabled/enabled very easily through the transmitter when you boot the tank.  The ElMod physics is probably the least IR battle advantageous, since the low-end acceleration is the slowest of the three. Although it does have braking, there's a considerable lag between forward and reverse (Although you can tweak these parameters with their Configurator).  In contrast, at its slowest trimmer setting, the Turnigy seems to accelerate more quickly through the low end.

The irony is that the goals are diametrically opposed: Features that make a tank behave realistically aren't usually features that win IR battles.  Most RC tanks operate somewhere between those two points, based on what the owner thinks is important (or can afford).
