Good Morning again,
This is my last post on this subject. As I noted above, I do not believe that it could not have happened. I just find it odd that with something as well documented as the German invasion of Russia in WWII that it has not come up before. Tin Foil hat? Really? I was the guy getting questioned about having Jerrycans, roofrack mounted on an early Pz IV, and there are tons of published pics of that setup on the web and in reference books. It is cool though. I'm still imaginative enough to be outlandish and damned proud of it.
regards,
Painless

Never mind, just read Eric’s post more closely.
Hi Jim,

Yup, you're entirely correct! Occasionally we'd find newspapers, with what appeared to be mud, and chicken feathers all mixed together and packed into the joints or open spaces in the walls. This was usually on the very early log style construction homes, but we found it in later ones too. Thank God for modern insulation! :D

Let's see, what were we talking about? This is starting to sound way too much like HGTV! :/ We're RC tanks here damn it! :haha:

Cheers,
Eric.

German cars, German girls, German beer, German firearms, German Shepherds, German motorcycles... Not necessarily in that order though!

Somewhere within my family are pictures from North Africa that have never been published or seen outside of my family. I'm trying to locate them, hoping they haven't been lost forever. I would put hard cash down to bet there are thousands upon thousands of unpublished photographs from the war.
Hello Mick,

You are quite correct Sir! I have many pictures taken by relatives that served the Fatherland during WW2. My Grandmother was very much into Genealogy and tried to keep in touch with distant members of the family still in Germany (all this was pre internet days and done the hard way by letter and or phone calls). She was always trying to trace family roots back further, but both World Wars made it a daunting task. As the older generations passed, it became harder for her to make new connections with the distant relatives. Shortly after her passing in the early 2000's, we received a large envelope containing many personal photos. Most of these were related to WW2 with pictures of soldiers in the field or at home, some had writing on the back and some didn't. There was no letter with the photos and no return address provided.

As many of her questions pertained to relatives that fought in the Wars, we can only assume that the younger generation wished to move on and put that part of family history behind them. Contact with other older, distant family members have slowly fallen away to nothing as they pass away too. I can understand the feelings but find it a bit of a shame too. Thankfully I have the pictures and they weren't thrown in a trash bin somewhere.

That being said, who knows when one finds anything on the internet! Very, very interesting though!

Cheers,
Eric.
