Tokyo Marui Leopard 2 A5 broken firing

Post by snikle »

Hi,
My son has just moved house and donated his RC tank to me after 15 years of it sitting in his loft. It works fine but the gun does not fire. Having taken it apart I find the 24/8 nylon gear has a tooth missing. I have now spent days searching for a replacement and just about given up. I am starting to think that its just too old, bit like me! But as a last try I thought I would ask the experts. So am I wasting my time? or can I buy the gear or mechanism anywhere if so please point me in the right direction or put me out of my misery adn stop me wasting even more time. :)

thanks

Hello and welcome to the form Colin.

I've moved your post to the introduction section, although you've asked a question, basically your post is also as much of an introduction as could be expected with your limited tanking experience.
And we do prefer an introduction before questions.

As for your gears, try forgebear as they will also answer any questions you have along with supplying you with what you need.

If I understand correctly, you have already disassembled the BB firing mechanism. If so, you might find just the gear you need if you search eBay. I bought a few assortments of nylon gears via eBay quite inexpensively. Nonetheleess, check the cost of a new firing mechanism from forgebear (if you are in the UK). It might just be easier and just as inexpensive.

Actually, is there any chance you could take a picture of the firing unit, I've just realised that the make of tank you have is not one I'm familiar with. And it would help us know more about what we're dealing with.

Is yours a 1/24th tank?

Thanks I will try them as I have searched all over to find the gear I am pretty sure its a .5 mod but maybe .6 24 teeth x 8 teeth, I can get any combination of teeth but not that one :(

I've just jogged my memory about these tanks, I'm not 100% sure, but I think the 1/24th Heng Long BB mechanism may be interchangeable, still not an easy thing to find, but probably a lot less difficult to find than the make you want.

Does it look like this 24/8?

That's 11mm total length.
24 tooth is 16 diameter, 3 thick.
8 tooth is 6 diameter, 4 long plus another 4 for the smooth shaft between gears.
The bore runs smoothly on a 1.5 drill bit shank.
Looks like the two gears have different pitches.

Note, those measurements were only done with a tape measure and aging eyes, but they're very close to the round numbers
