Tiagen sherman turret on Mato sherman hull

Post by c.rainford73 »

I'm sure one of our esteemed sherman aficionados has completed this swap. I've an older spare mato plastic upper hull from a Sharman M4A1 (76) and decided to fit a nice taigen turret with recoil and flash and sadly the tiagen offering is a wee bit larger in diameter...

I'm sure I can accomplish the swap just wanted some words of encouragement and maybe some advice from someone who has completed the swap.

Much appreciated.

I purchased just this setup from Ad Lav, but what he'd done is remove the rollers from under the turret, and cut out the Mato hull to fit a portion of the Taigen hull, with the hole into an enlarged hole in the Mato hull.

I wonder if the base from a Mato turret could be fitted to the bottom of the Taigen turret
Sadly I don't have a spare Mato turret bottom, but I do have a spare Heng Long turret bottom you could somehow fit to the Taigen turret, although, I don't think the Mato and Heng Long turret holes are exactly the same, but they're very close.

Or, the other alternative is, I remove the portion of Taigen hole in my Mato hull, and send it to you if you don't have anything to use.
As quite honestly, I want to fit a Heng Long turret to this particular hull, and I didn't realise at the time it had/needed this modification.

The portion of Taigen hull is circular at about 5mm wide. (Why is it when I type in "wide" my phone always offers me "wife." . . . . Must have seen her. . . .)

I believe that will be my approach Mick. Shouldn't be too hard to accomplish.

I assumed it was a straight forward swap. Should be fun!

Same operation as on my Sherman - sandwitch Taigen lower - Mato upper - Taigen Turret. As I had Taigen plastic hull, I cut ring and glue to Mato hull after widening the hole. Lots of sanding and cutting using roraty tool.

Or you do it the expensive way and use a Nick Aguilar M4A1 hull and T23 turret. Superior in both respects.

I did find my Schumo T23 turret would not fit the Nick Aguilar M4A1 hull...

The only trouble with Nick's set up, it's designed to be interchangeable with the Tamiya parts, therefore the Tamiya turret rotation set up is required unless you do some modifications.

A Heng Long rotation unit is easy enough to fit. Agreed not a lot of room inside for stuff to fit. Hence me getting the Schumo turret for my M4A3E8 - tamiya stuff is plug and play.
