Wouldn't each crew member have their own flashlight.

The crescent cut-out makes sense too. They used those 90 degree TL-122 flashlights issued back then.

Good evening,
I found the flashlights and binoculars on Shapeways but the holder I had to make. Pretty sure that's what that is.
