Sherman question...

Post by Ad Lav »

Guys, does anyone know what this tubular part on the Sherman ready ammo stowage rack is for?

Specifically it’s a 76mm turret wet stowage box, holding six ready shells for the loader.

Gunner sits upon this box on his seat, the tube is on a bracket on the end.

Thanks

Flashlight holder is elsewhere. We have that.

Difficult to find any decent photos!

Adam, looking at the two pictures, the flashlight holder in Mr Jarlath's picture is identical, even down to the mounting. It could be possible that they had more than one flashlight or had it custom positioned.

And in your picture, it looks every bit a flash light holder.

I think our bracket is bent - will have to talk to the others and discuss!

Thank you for the photo!

Question. The photo is from a 76mm wet rack yes? The manual photo is from the m10?. I’m no expert but last I checked the m10 and the m4 are to very different tanks so would it be to impossible for the flash light holders to be in different places?

Yes, wet rack from a 76mm.

The photo Jarlarth posted is an M10, feasible that the tube has the same use.

we have a flashlight in a different place. Hence my query about this tube, or if it carried more than one flashlight.
