Smoke candles  Quite common on German tanks in the early war period.

Started work on the smoke candle unit. With my usual combination of solder and superglue, I have assembled the first 10 pieces. What you can't see is the internal dividers.

Only another 33 bits to go! Life was complicated as there is an error in the photo etch. There are two holes in one of the end panels. Unfortunately it is the wrong end! Not too difficult to resolve, fortunately. I have to wait now. I have a range of sizes of brass rod, but Sod's law, I have larger and smaller but no 0.5mm, so have to wait till it is delivered.

Tiger6 was very quick and helpful in identifying the smoke candles unit for me. I have another question so I hope he or someone else can help me again. At the right rear of the tank, there is a rectangular plate which looks to be mounted almost vertically. There is another, I think, on the left mudguard and I think one on the right. I shall be most grateful for any information.

Edit:I described the plates as rectangular based on the instruction sheet and the above photo. On checking the actual photo etch, I find they are rhomboid.

My pick is if they are rhomboid they may be unit ID plates

Right rear, just to the right of the exhaust silencer. Mine are a slightly different shape. There a second on the left hand side, mounted on the mudguard in front of the shovel

As promised,a photo showing both sides of the plate on its mount. Strictly speaking, it is more of a parallelogram than a rhomboid. If, as Herman suggested, it is a unit ID, what would that consist of?

Interestingly, there is provision for a bend in the mount where it meets the plate, suggesting that there should be an angle to it. There is nothing in the intructions though.
