Re: Torro, Taigen
Probably brothers , just hate each other

Re: Torro, Taigen
That might not be far off. Not sure if it's true, but I've heard that Heng Long is a family business and some of the family members (after a tiff) split off and formed Taigen Tanks.
When FDR coined the phrase "The Arsenal of Democracy", he was talking about Detroit. Proud to live in the 2nd most violent city in America!!

Knowing the love of the Chinese and Japanese for using words that have a deeper meaning especially company names I cannot help wondering if Henglong (One word) Which was an ancient city in Northern China was the origin of the story of the three R/C Tank companies,
Chinese history/legend refers to Henglong as the original source of three rivers which began as one and grew apart.
As we know Heng Long came first and Taigen came from Heng Long to initially be the "Lexus" of "Toyota" or the "Humber" of "Hillman" or the "Cadillac" of "Chevrolet" ie the quality arm of the basic product but finally split and became an independent company Such as "Bentley" from "Rolls Royce", Torro came later forming the third part of the (Triad) legend.
Just the musings of someone trying to put off going shopping

Re: Torro, Taigen
HL has nothing to do with Torro/Taigan nor MATO nor Trumpeter nor anyone else here in China. That said, they are in the midst of rebranding themselves as "New Model" as I found over the weekend while talking to them at the Shanghai RC competition.
Now if they'd adjust their egos slightly downward & remove their name off the front hull of their metal tanks. Its all quite fugly if you ask me.

Talking of boxes and translation. Huangan who make the HG range have just brought out an all metal Hummer. Lovely truck, detailed etc. Snag is they refer to a smoke unit in the advertising. I have a friend who imports them and he has had a couple of customers asking how they put oil in? He took a look and couldn't see anything, he even contacted me for suggestions as to where the filler might be.
I looked at all the pics but, no, nothing. In the end he took one apart...there is no smoke unit at all! The Chinese translators seem to have mistaken 'exhaust pipe' for 'smoke unit'...

Regarding the new HG-P408 Humvee, I just got mine last weekend so to set the record straight:wibblywobbly wrote:Talking of boxes and translation. 1. First of all, it is not all metal, but does include uses A LOT of aluminum, stainless & die-cast parts. Body & most of the detail parts are ABS but it's a beast with a net weight of 8kg.
2. It does not come with either smoke or sound effects. I've reached out to HG & awaiting a reply on their optional modules.
3. It is very well detailed, IMHO to the point of being overdone since they greatly limits where one can add aftermarket parts. It comes with a quality 16CH radio, you have plenty of room to upgrade this beast but it will be tight to hide a sound module/speaker or smoke generator. My GT Power module is too large so time to get creative.
4. Only complaint I have is that plastic brush bar on the front since its far too flexible. I look forward to seeing someone offer an aftermarket part, either in aluminum or steel.
Overall, it is well worth the asking price. That said, I was lucky enough to get into a local group buy so paid under $400 at current exchange. Score!
