Re: Israeli Centurion - Shot Kal Gimel - IDF 1980s - Build
thank you all
In the picture above, the Sho't Kal is very close to mine, but does not have the smoke grenade launchers. I will also use FN Mag machine guns instead of the old Browning that we're replaced at one point. Mine will also have an M2 .50 cal Browning on the mantlet, a must have for a Sho't Kal model...

Yes, below is the look i want for the IDF Centurion, with 2 crews on the turret, with sunglasses. I have plans for 2 infantry riders/spotters with CAR-15 carbines at the back of the turret but a tank with explosive armor is a real bad place for infantry to hang around in combat. I will see if I can position them in a meaningful pose.HERMAN BIX wrote:On past form I assume you will magic up a crew & soldiers hitching a ride ?

Hi,
Here is the 60mm turret mortar.
Sho't Kal were given an externally mounted 60mm mortar next to the commander's cupola, likely to be used against ennemy dug-in anti-tank teams and maybe to compensate a lack of IDF infantry support. It must also have been a risky operation, requiring the commander to partially exit the turret, aim and fire the mortar while totally exposed, and doing so instead of commanding... I do not know in what level of success it was used. I am not aware of other armies doing the same.
The book "Centurion tanks of the IDF" has an extremely rare picture of the 60mm installed.
Otherwise, we only get to see the brackets. The AFV Club kit provided some measurements on key parts.
The mortal tube was scratch built mainly with 5 and 6mm brass tubes. It is not easy to build and was done on a best effort basis with quite a few compromises. But I am satisfied with the results. Here, the mortar is in locked position.
It adds an interesting feature to the turret.
Regards, Louis
