2016 heng long controller won’t bind

Post by JeffBezos »

Hi, I’m new to this forum and I would be very grateful for any help that I can get. I recently purchased a 2016 heng long transmitter and it won’t connect to my 2014 receiver on my tank . I’ve tried holding the pair button on the tank and lock button on the controller but it hasn’t worked for the many times i have tried.
If anyone would have any knowledge on this that would be great.
Many thanks
DGS

A closeup photograph of both components would help as there are several versions of both and l believe these need to match. Are they even both 2.4ghz?

You could have a chat with Andrew at HAYA who imports and sells (and importantly probably knows the answer and will have the bits you may need yo resolve the problem). However, there will doubtless be others here that may be able to help, but they will need to identify the components you have.

A couple of things,
First, What Generation Heng Long Control board (RX18)is in your Tank ?
I think Heng Long are on generation 6 or 7 now.
What generation Controller are you using?
If the one is not compatible with the other you will never get your controller to bind,
Next, How are you starting your tank ?
Are you switching on the Tank first or are you switching on the controller first ?
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

The numbering system Heng Long uses respectively for its MFUs (series number to be found only on the Printed Circuit Board, I think) ), and Transmitters can be quite baffling.
I'm guessing that your MFU controller could be V 4 series, where the TX is- as you say 5.2. In which case they're probably not compatible. Ideally, all transmitters should be backwards-compatible; but as Heng Long add more features (extra sounds and functions) compatibility is seen to slip away.
But as Jarndice has suggested, there may be other reasons why you can't make a connection. :)

This business of finding compatible versions of HL TXs with MFUs needs someone to create a definitive list of Heng Long series revisions, and their approximate release dates.
A list of features added chronologically with compatibility notes, would also be helpful, as this topic crops up pretty frequently.
Here's another related discussion..

With your screen-name, you should be able to afford a Tamiya tank.. or..well, the whole company :lolno: :D

The Transmitter version is rev5.5 from 2016 and the receiver is rev5.2 from 2014 and is 2.4Ghz Heng Long. I started the tank first and then the controller and vice versa and no startup from the tank.

Hence my ;) wink, yes l know him well. He does know his products inside out which, given the mysteries of HL electrics, is good to know! Every version change makes everything incompatible, even the internal wiring. 'Andrew' still gets to know all the tricks and he's happy to take a call.

But, as we've said many times before, for all HL niggles, they seem to get so many of us into the hobby.

Ah... :haha: and I thought it was a mild josh at Welsh sensibilities, and character. :lolno:
On the winking theme, I often picture the agitated Herbert Lom, as Ch.Insp.Dreyfuss, in the Pink Panther movies. His manic winking, in the presence of Peter Sellers as Insp Clueless (-seau), is simple a comic tour de force
