Being a 2.4ghz unit it doesn't need the Aerial. I got myself another Tiger today on top of the spares I was given the other day. In theory, I have three Tigers now. Two require radio gear & electronics as the one I got today is 27ghz so i'm upgrading.Ava_Banana wrote:haha, i did mean that you haven't re-located the aerial, or put one on as decoration in the correct place?rolling-thunder wrote:No, with my poor eyesight the Tank still goes out of view. ...no aerial?
I'm currently wondering what i can use (i'm putting an internal aerial in the body for RC) for the aerial that will be springy enough to mimic a real one when the turret goes round over it but that will look correct for scale.

Where are you? If you're stateside I can help. I have a few extra MFUs and transmitters and pretty much whatever else you need to get them all rolling. You pay all postage, so that's why I say if you're stateside. For anything bigger than a letter the shipping across the big water is horrendous.

As embarrassing as this is I don't know what MFUs are. The last Transmitter I bought was used in my Panzer IV as it was running on the 27ghz system. I bought the Taigen 2.4ghz system & even though it's plug & play I was still surprised when it actually ran. I was going to swop all my Tanks over to 2.4 if I can, as they seem to run better {with more range} than the 27ghz.Max-U52 wrote:Where are you? If you're stateside I can help. I'm in the UK but if you don't mind the hassle of shipping what you've got over to me i'm more than willing to pay postage if you can figure out how much it will cost. I'm in Merseyside for the shipping calculator. I'll probably end up getting caught by UK customs & having to pay duty but I will live with it.
What systems do you have? I've only just started this hobby & I've probably overstretched myself financially at the moment but it's been fun & people have been so willing to give advice & help. Probably best taking this to PMs? I tried but the PM wouldn't go though.

MFU stands for multi function unit and it's the control or mother board that goes in the tank. I've sent stuff to the UK before and for the size box needed it's just cheaper for you to get this set up from one of the guys over there. Andy has some (Spartan tracks) and I think he wants 35 quid for the whole 2.4 set up, transmitter (handset), MFU and possibly a speaker. You need to look at your tanks and make a list of what you need to get them going. Playing around with stock sets is a great way to learn and figure out just exactly which aftermarket functions are most important to you. If you have one good transmitter and MFU you might try it in the tanks that don't yet have it just to make sure everything works, like lights and machine guns. With three tigers I think I'd set up two with stock electronics for now and leave one for a better grade board, like an IBU or an Asp. You'll also need a hobby grade radio for the hobby grade board, but Ian (tankbear) can fix you up with everything you need at a good price. Not to mention that his customer service is truly top drawer. The 27 MHz would probably be the best one to try a hobby grade board in, and maybe a stock set up for the other for now. Trust me, eventually you'll want ALL your tanks to do as much cool stuff as you can cram into them, and don't ever start thinking you've bought your very last tank, because I don't know of one single RC tank collection that the owner considers "complete". There's always one more variant or model that you still just must have someday, even if you dream big, like a Maus or even a Ratte.
If you want I'll Pm Andy about maybe setting you up with some electronics. I'm not sure exactly where he's at but I know it's in the UK and he's a member of the Bristol Armoured Division. And even if I wasn't sure, the fact that he spells it "Armoured" tells me he's a Brit. More of that "common language" humor.

Thanks guys, I probably agree with you about costs. I will now make enquiries

Re: Tiger build - newbie learning
One bit of advice - the price most guys in Britain are asking for a used MFU/TX is kinda high. Most guys want about 35 pounds but I sell those for about 35 dollars. In fact, for some of the younger guys on a tight budget I've been known to send a lot of stuff for free and even pick up the postage sometimes, if the guy really needs the parts and I know he'll do great things with them. I think 25 pounds would be a more fair price, especially if the seller is a true RC Tanker and is serious about expanding the hobby and trying to help out the new guys. I know all about tanking on a budget so I try to always give guys the best deal I can on used parts and what-not, because encouraging guys like you is good for the hobby as a whole. But remember, once you become an Old Hat yourself we'll expect you to go out of your way to help out the new guys coming up after you. I really think we're more than just a hobby, we're a community so I hope you'll do well and later help others to do well.
