Tiger build - newbie learning

I have a Bulldog that my son "grew out of", but my wife managed to bin the controller.

I've been looking out for a handset, and as luck would have it a Tiger was advertised locally on a facebook buy/sell group for £30.

Popped along and picked it up, all working just dusty, dirty and a little dishevelled.

Still not sure what I'm going to do with it yet, but thought I'd start a thread so i can include any activities.

Firstly, tried it out....it all works (although i haven't seen it smoking yet), lights, action, sound etc all good. Just a bit noisy and not running as freely as it perhaps should

Had to resort to youtube for how to remove the top, but had a little strip down.





Bit dirty, few bits missing, could do with some lubrication in the gearbox, but i'll clean it all out and see where we go with it

That's pretty much how mine looked when it arrived from eBay followed by the wife saying what have you brought that for. A good clean and inspiration from the this site and it's now on its way to what I wanted. The wife's even passing complements on it now and wants a Sherman.
Looks a good purchase and enjoy the build.

Just a couple of thoughts, The clamps holding down the Black plastic (Air Cleaner) tubes on the engine decking on the early version were glued down but the later ones could be unscrewed using a "Jewellers" cross head screwdriver and the other thing is the Heng Long Decals,
They are wildly inaccurate and look Blo*dy awful,
Peddinghaus and Archers are some of the aftermarket Decal makers who do 1/16 German Armour.
I shall follow your build with interest.

Yes they are cross-head screws so will be coming off

I'm also not keen on the decals too shiny, and they'll need to come off during prep and body mods.

I've not long got myself the same Tank. A couple of runs on the Beach has either killed the plastic gearbox off or just general wear & tear did {after a couple of days running}. Anyway, I now have a replacement Metal Gearbox from Forgebeartanks which will be installed later, possibly along with a few other upgrades I have from my tank including metal drive wheels & idlers

Thanks, that's interesting, looking a little more in-depth at mine last night I could see some of the allen key holes on the wheels had been rounded off so i think the wheels have been taken off at some point.
The drive and rear wheel on mine are also a plastic shiny chrome (as you see above in the picture) but yours are grey, i wonder if mine are replacements? I can also see I am missing a few bits and bobs.

Mine are definately plastic, too many other things to update before I go for metal drive wheels I think....

My current drive sprocket & idlers are plastic as I haven't fitted the metal gear to the Tank yet. Bought from trusted suppliers in the UK, Welshdragonmodels. That and they feel like metal.

Busy weekend so not much to report. Continued stripping top half, removed turret and ancilliaries on top half.

Trying to decide whether to chip off all the tools and buy metal to replace. Also not sure what to do with or what colour to do the shiny black pipes on the back.

I saw someone elses build where they had braided hoses. Turns out he used a length of braided hose from an Air compressor. A quick search on ebay found the same hose for less than £5.I believe the end result will look great.
I have my hoses connected by magnets, this means I can glue down the hose clamp & remove the little screws holding the hose clamp down when I finish adding the grills to my deck. I have a quick release fitted in my tank so I don't need to remove the hoses any more.
I bought the 3.2mm inner diameter hoses giving an external diameter of just over 7mm. The top picture is a Tank by c.rainford73 , middle picture is the hoses from ebay & the bottom picture is my Tank before the hoses arrive.
