The "3 frequency" on the box tells it all.

It's an older, 1st generation 27mhz Heng Long. Hence the price. Second generation had sound, but with everything hardwired. Those never had smoke. Only when the RX13controller came about, smoke & sound became standard.

So, not a bad buy, or an attempt to get one over on you. It's just old stock. Open it up, check the gears. They tend to split with age. When the gears are fine, try to clean the brownish lube off, and put some lithium grease on them. Silicon lube works too. The horrible brownish grease tends to attack the nylon of the gears.

Ìf something is broken, know that all "modern hardware" stìll fits the older gen1 tanks. Gearboxes, controller, etc. So a new gearbox, a smoke& sound controller and transmitter -the whole shebash- still fits. Re-wiring it for a rx18 controller is not thàt hard, but some technical inclination, ànd soldering-skills are needed.

I Upgraded an ancient, gifted, Bulldog that way.

Edit:

Ah. Missed that You already got a new one. Well. My little re-furbishing babble still goes for anyone who happens to run in one of those elderly Heng Longs.. :P

And the paint? Mêh. Standard. I usually immediately re-spray any new tank.

Lol I appreciate the info either way. Yeah ill strip the paint one day if/when my daughter gets tired of playing with it. She tends to move on to something else then back again. So time will tell, until then Ill see what color scheme I should go with.
