Rebuilt Churchill first road test...

Post by 43rdRecceReg »

You really have to admire the dedication (and bank balances too..) of guys like these. They're working in 1/1 scale, bringing tanks back to life. Here's a Churchill (still minus turret), like some mechanical Lazarus..bursting into life for our benefit.
Must say the interior looks fantastic, but then it's perfectly lit with no lid on the tank :D This charitable group have posted several videos of the Churchill; one running alongside a Chally 2-- but this one is special as it records the tank's first movements since WW2  The engine sounds really sweet... :P

I really must get to the Isle of Wight one day, its not far, but they charge a King's ransom for the short ferry trip over.

I didn't know about this military collection there:

They seem to have a fair collection of tanks and militaria
I flew into Bembridge Airfield many years ago with a friend who owned a Piper Cherokee. It's a scary approach to the runway from a Seaward direction, and across some fairly vertiginous scary cliffs. 8O In those days, though, we were interested in vintage WW2 aircraft, and gadding about like Biggles to remote airfields. Didn't see much of the Island, however, but it looked good from the air....and from some of the local bars. Needless to add, we didn't fly under the influence of anything...except enthusiasm :haha:
