In the first version of my Tamiya Tiger back in 2005, I went full Aber and it makes a huge difference, even if you're driving it around. The current tank is still running well, but I modded it into an initial, so most of the brass isn't on it anymore because it wasn't on the original.
I crashed that tank through everything and had no problem with the details staying put. The main thing is don't use CA. CA is strong but has no sheer strength, so it's prone to being knocked off with impact from the side. PVA type of glue is much better since it's slightly flexible when dry (not flexible that you would notice).
The best I've come across is Pebeo's Bindex. That stuff id incredible for PE, mud effects, assembling figures, etc. On my old website tutorials, I had an article that showed a 1/35 DML Tiger hanging and swinging from a PE clamp. Pebeo is a French company, so it should be readily available on your side of the pond. It's basically artists acrylic paint without pigment. Very strong stuff, water based. You basically put a blob where you want the PE to go, wipe away the excess with a wet brush or Q-tip.

I like the sound of this. I used CA and it does keep coming detached. A quick search reveals it is available from Hobbycraft in the UK @ £2.90 for 100ml.

I unfortunately just experienced that. Had a few PE hinges to use for the Panthers stowage boxes and one fell of and lost when trying in the top and catching it with one of the hooks. I then tried Pattex twin compound glue. It ends up hard but slightly flexible. Seems to be a better option. The acrylic stuff , I didn't find here.
