Bendy toys...

Post by 43rdRecceReg »

I was just looking at the Asiatam motors supplied with my Cromwell kit, when I noticed that one of the beefy, stainless steel- looking, sides was badly bent. It was toeing scarily inward, from the bearing around the output shaft. Then I recalled it fell on the floor from the table last night. It's only a short drop, and even then on to laminate flooring.: that shouldn't buckle 2.5mm stainless steel :eh: :O. In the event, I was able to straighten it with some small lightweight pliers (normally used on specs and detailed work), with and astonishing minimum of effort. I'd expect 'steel' of this thickness to require a vice and hefty hammer to correct it. Not so.
Years ago, a friend bought a 'budget' tin opener from a boot sale, and was very pleased with her 'bargain' purchase. But when I tried it on a can..it bent right out of shape as if it were chromium plated rubber, and had maybe come from a local joke shop. :lolno: :lolno:
I'm afraid that some of these Chinese produced artefacts look superficially impressive, but lack any real substance; a bit like having a deckchair made out of Balsa wood. (Yep..I know... it's technically a 'Hardwood'. ;)
Can anyone recommend motors/gears that are not off the shelves of the local amusement shop? Being served horse as beef was one thing, but plated white metal as expensive stainless steel quite another...
Who makes the best quality gearboxes?
Whatever brand they may be, they have to be better than these:

Some people never learn,
So Roy still buying "ASIATAM" eh,
There is a word for people like you, It is "Jarndice"
oops :{ I meant Mug.
For decent gearboxes at a reasonable price I would always buy "Taigen", A wide range with one in that range that will fit most Tanks on the market and if money is no problem then "Maxmekker" should be your next port of call.

:shh: :shh: ..but if you read my post carefully, oh scathing one, :D you'll see that it 'was supplied' with my Cromwell. I don't know whether a certain eminent Teutonic scratch builder knows how 'bendy these things can be.
I too would probably buy Taigen, of DKLM.. :shh: :shh:

I wrote: 'stainless steel-looking', Dean. I'm simply saying that all that "glitters isn't gold"...or, in this instance, stainless steel.

Sorry, me bad. I was just trying to say yes, that aluminum can be bent and/or damaged pretty easy as it is really not the greatest aluminum. They did polish it up nicely though... :D
