Clarck TK 22 panzer IV - no sound !!!

Post by EagleOne »

Dear hobby friends,

Last week I ordered a Clarck TK-22 soundboard for my panzer IV.
I did the installation correctly and it was operating very well until now.
When I was operating the tank, suddenly the tank lost it sound !
Everything except the sound is still functional, like main gun and his flash, MG, driving skills, and so on, but no sound at all !
I checked every wire and it is still like before when the tank was fully operational.
When I put my ear to the speaker I hear, but very silenced, the sound of the motor, MG, etc...
I pump up the volume but no succes ! I changed the soundspeaker, no succes ! I changed also the volume switch, no succes !

Can you help me out please ?

Michel,

It is likely that the speaker amp has blown. I would try using a binding plug in place of the volume control to see if the sound is any louder. This in theory will provide maximum volume from the Tk-22. If it is still the same then the board will have to be repaired.

MichealC is right. I had a very similar situation and it was the stock Heng Long pententiometer (volume control) that was no good. I made a jumper and all was OK. I do know that the Clark boards will function sometimes strange or erratic when the battery voltage is down. That does not sound like the case here.
Tanks alot....

Hey M.,

Thanks for the advice. No result with the binding plug ! I think also it is an amp who has blown up !
In the mean while "TankZone.co.uk" is providing me another Clarck TK22 board, free of charge !
This is a great service !

From the Clark website.......

Q: I accidentally shorted speaker wire and now had barely any sound, everything still works but hardly any sound.
A: A FB( pointed by red arrow) might be damaged because of over current, please remove it and short its two pads by solder or wire. Of course, It's the best if you can find a 200 ohm FB and replace the broken one.

2nd, the audio amplifier ( pointed by green arrow) goes very hot when operating, do not apply glue or double faced adhesive tape on it and left some space for it for heat dissipation.

I wouldn't try it. I tried soldering the FB together once as per instructions and didn't work for me, not to mentioned the amp. If you don't want to send it back for repair you can try using an external amp and see what happens. There are examples of wiring and external amp on the website as well right after the low volume FAQ that I posted here.
