2.4Ghz on heng Long king Tiger

Post by Dug »

I have just bought a new 2.4Ghz Heng long KT (Henschel turret). It seems to work fine but when it switches on the MG light seems to act as the headlight (flashing and then going steady) and when I fire the MG the headlight flashes not the MG. It's been a bit of a story since I first bought it - the first turret the gun fell out and I was sent replacement upper hull and turret. As far as I can see from my before photos I've replaced the plugs in the correct places and correct ways. The dealer (Andrew HAYA) and I are still in discussion but he says that early 2.4Ghz tanks the headlight flashes when the MG fires. I wonder if this is correct (I have no previous experience with 2.4Ghz) and if anybody has an idea why this is happening. I see there as being 3 alternatives:
1. I've put the plugs back wrong;
2. The upper hull is wired for a later version of 2.4Ghz than the lower hull/CPU;
3. The upper hull is wired wrongly (MG and headlight switched).
Grateful for any ideas short of sending the whole thing back and buying something else???
regards
Doug

All of my tanks are 2.4G. On not a single one (9 in total..and growing in number) does the MG double as the headlights, and nor do the headlights double as the MG. Andrew seems a reasonable sort. He's even a member here, but assuming you didn't misunderstand him, then he's just fed you a pile of BS.
The lights and the MG are hardwired (soldered in this instance) to the 8-pin connector block inside the turret. There should be no provision for 'plugging them in'. Your MFU (tank brain) should look like this, or a variation of this. You'll see there's a connector (C11) for plugging in optional rear lights. Beyond that, the scope for picking the the wrong slot is limited; though you can connect the 8-pin cable the wrong way round.

It seems to me that the lights/mg have been soldered to the wrong terminals at the factory..or in some later refit. Have a look at this:
Heng Long 8 pin connector.jpg
On the right you see the MG and Lights share one common link (pin 6), but are otherwise separate. So, it looks like these are the terminals to check..if you're up for it. If not, insist (it's your right) on a replacement without
dyslexic wiring (apologies to anyone with that condition). That's: a replacement tank, not replacement BS >:<
Incidentally, the headlights are linked to the engine start process. Does the tank actually start up properly?

Tank starts up properly and runs perfectly. Turret rotates and BBs fire. Smoke works. Everything works great except for the MG and headlight being reversed. The 8 pin connector appears to be in the right way in the cpu. I will check the wiring of the 8 pin tomorrow. Thanks very much for the help
