Re: Tiger 131 project
Not much progress at all as I discovered much too late that I was almost out of the paint colours that I needed, should have it all on Tuesday, All that I have managed to do is put bullet holes and dents in the exhausts, air filters and turret bin, and rust the shrouds. No idea why I bothered for a piece of battlefield scenery, but as I already mentioned, I converted the solid mantlet/barrel into two seperate parts, then lengthened the barrel to the correct length, and now I have a complete mount for a recoil in there as well.

Ultimately it's what looks good to you and that's all that really matter
Do the mods that suit you and skip the ones that don't. Your doing a great job and I can't wait to see the final product

Re: Tiger 131 project
Having come across Zov's build in Google images, I discovered a very rare turret roof pic of 131. This shows that the vent is both in the wrong place, and different to the usual offerings as it has the cover on. I can't do the wingnuts but I managed to get a fairly close version of the real thing.

Re: Tiger 131 project
I've got some scale wingnuts, if they would be of use. not sure how many though. Alternatively, I have the Aber brass PE ones, which I did not attempt.

Re: Tiger 131 project
Thanks for the offer but I will see how it looks when it is finished, this is, or was, supposed to be a quick, cheap, and cheerful Tiger 131, plus an opportunity to see what I could make rather than buy. It is only since I started this little jaunt that I discovered all of the bits that are unique to this Tiger. I 'think' I have now got all of the angles covered, just a few scuff marks to put in. I actually put too many bullet holes in the exhaust shrouds. I picked up the wrong one, the left one doesn't have any so I will have to go back and fill those in.
I keep looking at that infernal turret, I know its wrong, I know it should be put right....it will play on my mind forever if I don't correct it, time will tell!

Re: Tiger 131 project
Slowly getting there, it has now has the base coat on. I am now leaning towards portraying this as it was prior to capture, so it will have the battle damage on the rear, but not the shell damage on the front. If I do it as it is now, all pristine and restored at Bovington, it wouldn't look like it did when it was captured, and wouldn't be 'right' for how a battle weary 131 looked.
It had already suffered some damage, and had been repaired. There is a 'D' shaped weld in the upper hull under the mantlet, so something must have clobbered it at some point.
Seeing as it will be a battlefield scenic, I am also thinking of splitting a track and making a sprocket hoist to display it like this.

Nice..............no way I would do a '131'..........too much rigidity and expectation !

Re: Tiger 131 project
Tanks for the Memories Tiger 1 build includes the Gantry as part of the ancillary equipment,
Worth a look but then again the whole of TFTMs Tiger 1 build is worth a look.
Shaun.
