Opened the Sherman up - what a lot of wires ;D It's got Taigen electrics in a Heng Long tank. There were a couple of connectors not plugged in. Anyway, I found a diagram showing what was what on the Taigen board which will make things a lot easier. When I brought it to a meet, I could not get the transmitter to bind. I have now discovered why. There was no power to the board. When it was rewired, the on/off switch was moved from underneath to the turret and was not even plugged in :-< What I thought was the power switch was for the smoker. It never occurred to me that the power switch would be disconnected.

It does look pretty much like a straight swap with all the plugs. All I need to do then is connect up a receiver, bind that, and I should have a working tank. I use the word should advisedly, not wishing to tempt fate.

Tried the 'press every button twice trick' and that didn'rt work. It won't even control my Sony tv, some buttons will activate power saving mode, but that's all I can get it to do. Looks like this is destined for the scrap box, though I may take it apart and check for broken wires or solder joints.

Edit: Took the remote apart. It is a pcb with three components on it. One leg of one component wasn't soldered through the board properly. A quick dab of solder, test fired it on '2' at the Bulldog and it worked.

Personally, it would be great if you could bring one or both of your desert coloured tanks. they would look good with my sandy Flak emplacement.

My Sherman.Well I've done it. Changed the board over, new receiver, extended the wiring for the power and it works! :D Sort of. :( I had to swap the channels around to get everything on the correct sticks. It goes forwards and backwards and left and right. The turret rotates and gun goes bang. No elevation working. :'( I also discovered that the on-off switch is wired back to front - not by me.

The longer drill arrived this morning and, after a lot of cursing, swapping drill bits and generally tweaking things, I have fitted the led into the panzerschreck. The body of the led may be 3 mm, but the rim at the back is 3.7 mm and won't go into a 3 mm hole. Having sorted that out, I then realised that there is what looks like a resistor wired directly to the led. That won't fit onto a 3 mm hole either! My pin vice won't take anything larger than 3 mm and I needed a 4 mm hole. Have you ever tried drilling out metal, turning the drill with your fingers? :'(

To finally get the led in place, I had to unsolder it from the board. I have filled the hole where I went through the side. Tomorrow, I can get everything assembled. The led will be a permanent fixture, in that it can only be removed from the front by disconnecting it.
I can then get on with a small diorama to display it. I have found some 2000 mah re-chargeable AA batteries which may be useful to power it all.

The panzerschreck figure is now complete. The mini-diorama is coming together. Once the PVA has dried, I should be onto the final stages. Hopefully, provided there are no major disasters, it will all be ready for Sunday. I will put some photos in the Show Off thread, as I'm quite pleased with it so far.

It was great to see you again Andy, and glad that you enjoyed your day out. It was indeed a good show, loads to look at, and some astounding models on display. I wish I had more time to seek out a bargain, I know George did!

The organisers were showing a great deal of interest in what we do, and I think everyone agreed that we had a much better set up and display than last year.

Here's my pics.

It was good to see Andy and a small selection of his fleet! More were available, but there were no more tables. There was a lot of interest from visitors to the show. All in all a good but tiring day.
